- Good to see Freiermuth on the chart. Hopefully he is not dinged and will play, although this week may be another good opportunity for Bowers, Kuntz and Strange to get some PT.

- Was W. Carr on the depth chart at WR for last week's game? Good to see him make a catch vs Idaho and hope he adds a consistent WR to the group.

- Surprised to see the 4 RB's still all or'd, as CJF seemed to indicate after last week's depth chart was released that Slade was really the first team guy...

- Cam Brown back as the starter at OLB, with Parsons moving back to his normal spot and Luketa backing up Parsons

- Hippenhopper not listed on the punt returner depth chart. Thankfully....

Note Barber is #2 on the chart. Must have been kept out for a reason this week

I thought someone said he did play, but I just checked the participation list and it does not show Barber as having played. Hope whatever the issues was is resolved as we need a stout DT rotation. The more the merrier....

All due respect to Jan Johnson (who’s what?, a 12th year senior by now), but with all the blue-chip MLBs on the roster, why is he still #1?
I think you’re going to see a lot of Ellis Brooks, Brandon Smith , Luketa etc this year. Johnson is a great story but we need more speed and pedigree at that position if PSU is going to be a playoff contender

You forgot to use the SaRcAsM fOnT.

Well, Johnson made a great tackle on either Idaho’s first or second possession on a run up the middle, would have been a H U G E gainer.

Tell him he shouldn’t be a starter, but he’s obviously earned it.

Carr impressed me. He appears to have more football smarts than some of the other WR’s, which should not be a surprise because he’s played a lot more. He is also a bigger guy at 6’2”.
Glad to see him move up. I would not be surprised to see him become a solid #2 at some point.

Safety still looks to have limited depth, along with OL, in comparison to most positions. Taylor in his last year, and both Wade and Brisker out of eligibility after 2020. Need another top Safety in the 2020 class....... Or maybe a CB switches to S this off season.

Looks like there could be three or four possible safety contributors in the 2020 class right now. There are some bigger CB’s on the current roster, as well. Then, there are always transfers.

Getting harder to find actual positions of need. Approaching a point where recruiting classes become very balanced.

Name them.

Only Jennings and Brown are listed as Safety's among the commits. And Brown is a JC player that likely has only 2 years of eligibility at PSU. J.Johnson is a big framed CB, but reportedly is a CB. And none of the WR commits look to have the frame to play Safety.

It would be great to see Holmes progress into the depth chart later this year at Safety, which is possible given that his switch to Safety was pretty recent. But right now Rudolph (true freshman) and Hartlaub (walk on) are the 3rd team Safety's. Holmes was quite a highly sought after player coming out of high school and has the size (6' / 216 lbs)) and speed to be an impact player at Safety in 2020 and 2021.

Definitely need another true Safety in this class, as well as another true OT.

What do you have against him Greg??

Punt returners usually need the ability to catch punts and then not fumble during the returns. Some of the coaches that fielded punts during the B/W half time looked more sure handed. :(

Nothing personally.... ;)

We now need "pedigree?" WTF IS WRONG WITH THESE FAN BOYS?
If someone is a starter...they earned it. I don't give a shit what boat their ancestors came on...or what some pay for ranking service said. We are surrounded by idiots. Pry.."JJ you look pretty good out there....but sorry man..you don't have the stars or the pedigree..." Good Lord!

Right now he's the listed " starter" by seniority but there's a reason that JF said that he would be splitting time with the other MLB's. Jan Johnson isn't good enough vs teams like Ohio State but he's more experienced than others. If the other's can improve their positioning, communication, etc... then they will be a better option than Johnson. Watch JJ vs. Ohio State last year, he was getting pushed around, run over, and was too slow. Don't act like athleticism doesn't matter.

Thanks for the explanation coach. Don't act like you ever played the game. Otherwise you would respect what JJ has and will contribute.

I get your point.

IMO, decent chance Joey Porter, Jr. becomes a safety and a good one.
