Upset Alert

I did not start one thread about Paterno. 0.

I only bring it up to point out the flaws and hypocrisy of other posts. The same posters who did not mind losing to toledo 24-6 now complain about a 9-1 team losing to teams with "equal" talent. Since when did osu have equal talent?

The joebots won't be happy til joes corpse is propped up on the sidelines. They would rather lose with Joe than win with anyone not named joe.
Everyone minds losing to Toledo
You're as bad as the joebots

He didn't work for free, but his base salary was around 500,000 and his total compensation was around 2,000,000. Franklin is getting 8,500,000. What is the cost benefit of that extra $$$ Big Game James is collecting?

The team is making much more today and none of that is due to the foundation that Paterno laid? Paterno raised more money for PSU than anyone else at the University, before or since, and he cared about the school's academic reputation. Paterno's impact on raising funds for the University through the football program and other non-athletic related fund raisers of the years approaches a number ending with Billion.

James has done a great job post sanctions, but until he can win the big games that matter, he isn't in Paterno's area code. Paterno was known for his team's half time adjustments and his ability to prepare teams for big games given extra time. Do you think a James Franklin coached 1986 team beats Miami in the Fiesta Bowl? At best they keep it close on defensive talent and lose on stupid clock management and play calling, just like we see against OSU and Michigan year after year after year. James has many more opportunities to prove himself and may break through yet, but if you think he is better than JVP, I'll take a hit from the crack pipe you are smoking from.
.

Do you think big game james would lose to toledo like Saint Joe? Psu had larry Johnson Jr and trailed 24-0 to toledo.

How much money did the program generate when Joe was making 2 million? How much wer other coaches making the same year? Bear bryant signed for 17k a year. He topped out at 450k.

Ps. Who hired sandusky?

The thing that I remember is that JVP teams were always known to be more prepared than the competition when there was more time to prepare. Think bowl records.

Every time we have a bye week or extra time for a bowl game I am more concerned under Franklin that the team will not put in the effort with the time. I would guess that Franklin focuses on recruiting during those blocks of time rather than on preparing his team to play. I am usually disappointed by our inability to show something new (beyond gimmick plays) that are designed to exploit something about the opponent.

Do you think Franklin would have been able to sucker Jimmy Johnson and Vinny Testeverde into throwing 5 interceptions? Would a Franklin team have his defense positioned to make those plays? I would be surprised.

Saban kept harping this morning that the most important selection criteria should be whether or not a team has beaten a Top 25 opponent. That shows the "quality win" bias rather than the "bad loss" bias, which occurs when a team takes a week off. Unfortunately, the teams we played that are normally in the Top 25 have had a down year, or simply gave up. Giving up after getting eliminated will be a problem going forward. The minor bowls are worth even less as the best players decline to play.

Preparation is one of the key ways that I compare coaches. Do they actually coach? You can see "coaching" during games too. Do the clock management and play calls make sense?

To be fair, in today's world "coaching" is in my opinion more difficult, because overall I believe the players are less mature. It is harder for coaches to assemble the individuals into a functional team. I now see a lot of show-boating prima donnas, things we never saw 40 years ago. Those types of players come with the baggage of their childhood, which I would guess is often dysfunctional. Sure, we had bad apples back in the day, even a killer and rapists, but we did not see the "look at me" types of behavior on the field of play. Today's kids openly display their lack of self esteem. I believe it is a lack of having good fathers.

In today's world when a coach can put together a team that plays above their physical gifts he becomes worth some money. I'm not seeing that at Penn State right now, so I'm not seeing how we justify the contract given to James Franklin. He might as well be the recruiting coordinator.

A&M is charging back
Boise's not playing their best--again this week
Too much time to say Bama's on Upset Alert but they need to get going (actually Milroe just threw a pick 6 so now they're down 3 scores)

Auburn driving to tie or go ahead … great run by the Auburn RB, but he loses his shoe in the process. He grabs it and quickly tries to put it back on but he doesn’t get the heel. They’re going fast and he doesn’t even attempt to fix it again - it’s just a slipper at this point. They run the next play and it’s a hand-off to him. He actually makes another decent run, as that show flies off early on.

Apparently, not nearly enough SEC teams were put on upset alert. You know-nothing morons crack me up - there is not a doubt in my mind that none of you know-nothing dweebs have ever played an organized sport.
