Urban Meyer is apparently having issues fitting in in the NFL

TIFWIW

Don't love Meyer but he will probably succeed like he has everywhere else.

The team needs to be blown up and rebuilt and Meyer needs to find out who's worth keeping. It makes for an unhappy atmosphere as no one knows their future, but it's probably inevitable.

Whether to blow up the OL in the first year is a judgment call and the writer apparently has his own opinion on that that is different from Meyer's. But it doesn't mean Meyer is wrong. He may be simply waiting until he has more information before he decides. It's not like you can just hire a few free agents and have an OL. They have to be built with high draft picks.

Meyer took the job and knew he would have to build the Jaguars up.. His whole NFL coaching career relies on Lawrence. Lawrence has shown some good things, but will need to learn to read defenses better. Everyone knew mistakes were going to happen with him. I am not ready to say Meyer is going to Bolt or has given up. Meyer one taking the job, the Jags weren't going to be KC or Tampa. Look at Jimmy Johnson who went 1-15 in first first season, but got better.

Different world between 1980's Jimmy Johnson success and 2021, we are way, way, way more of an instant gratification society with a lot more pressure to succeed from Day 1. I am sure Urban new that he wasn't going to be a playoff team in Year 1, but at the same time he might not have fully understood the depths of the NFL talent and how hard it is to get to the playoffs from where the Jaguars are. He might be realizing that his type of offense is not going to work well in the NFL. Might realize his way of dealing with players works great in college but not so good in the NFL. Might find that crazy hours of a NFL head coach (which are even worse then the crazy hours of a college head coach) are not for him. Might hate the fact that the press is not kissing his butt like they did at OSU and Florida. There are countless things that Urban might have underestimated between the pro game and college game that make him want to change his mind.

I much prefer CJF's approach over UM. One can disagree with his demeaner, his character or whatever they want to try to punch holes in. But UM can coach football with the best that ever lived.
When he has the better talent he can.

The word out of Pittsburgh is Urban wanted vocal 'rah rah' types in Jacksonville which didn't fit Schobert's style, and opted for another LB. For some reason, Pittsburgh seems to have difficulty drafting ILBs.
What? Shazier would have been the man in that spot for another 8 years.

You can't recruit a class every year that would be equivalent to 5 or 6 players per round in the 1st 4 rounds. You're only getting 1 or 2 players per round, so the talent is spread out throughout the league.
