Urban Meyer starting out just like it was college

Revealing that you go down to such a juvenile level to find a put down.
Am I correct in assuming that you get upset at every recruit Franklin flips and did the same every time Joe flipped one? Or is it classier when Penn State does it?
At the time, it was an "unwritten rule" that coaches didn't actively recruit kids verbally committed to other schools. The kids had to reach out to them if they were rethinking their commitment. Urbs changed that and there was quite a bit of angst over it, at the time. Michigan soon followed suit and then the rest of the B1G. But it is certainly not against any rule and wasn't then.

I don’t buy that at all. It was an unwritten rule of Joe’s that we heard about. It was often something pointed to as something that made Joe different. I never heard that as an unwritten rule at large though.

the complaint didn't come from the "joe era" or even at PSU. the initial complaints came from UM, MSU and NW. Joe was, as you know, far in the rear view mirror when UM ascended to HC or tOSU.

I’m sure what you’re referencing then. Are you saying it was a Big 10 unspoken agreement or an agreement across all of college football? Regardless, I don’t believe that would have been a rule upheld by all coaches. And, I don’t recall the specifics of how these kids flipped so quickly to OSU. Did they call Urban and say they were interested? Did Urban call them and ask if they were still committed to the train wreck that was emerging at Penn State? Was Urban already in contact with these kids in anticipation of following Joe at Penn State?

I don't know. I recall several coaches going public with the fact that tOSU was calling their verbally committed kids and that this was a no-no. the B1G was asked and said that there are no such rules until an LOI is signed. I believe it was to leave kids alone as many commit so that they are not hounded by coaches sleeping in their cars at the curb to catch the kid when he was waiting for the bus in the morning. It was back when coaches actually had a soul and set the kid's welfare as a priority.

I don't recall the details but am 100% sure this was a "thing" for urban.

A quick google search came up with several articles. Seems it was the current ILL coach, BB, when he was at Wisconsin. But there was more than just him.

I’m certainly not going to trust my memory to be accurate, I just don’t remember it being a thing. Even if it was a thing pre-Urban, the whole Penn State situation at the time is a whole different ballgame. Once a coach is fired it’s generally open game in their previous commits.
