Utah starting QB gets benched on Saturday leaves program today

I'll never get the rules straight. He started 4 years at Baylor then started 3 games at Utah and now can transfer and play elsewhere?

Unless I’m missing something, he’s out of eligibility and can’t go anywhere else
"While Brewer started games across five seasons and thrown nearly 1,400 collegiate passes, he has not used his redshirt year. That could leave the door open for Brewer to enter the transfer portal and play somewhere new in 2022. The redshirt rule – typically used for underclassmen – allows a player to participate in up to four games without using a year of eligibility. "

Ah, good call…wasn’t thinking about the fact he only played three games this year. Although, I believe he’ll need a waiver since he used his grad transfer to be eligible this season.

It may seem a bit extreme, but get used to it. You're likely to see more of this now that transfer rules have been relaxed. Particularly from QB's. Anyone who is a scholarship QB at a college of any size almost certainly entertains the dream of playing in Sundays. If a guy like that is relegated to a backup role, it is hardly surprising that he might look to transfer to a school that is offering him a chance to either play or complete for a starting QB role.

Should Utah fans wait and see where he transfers, then post threads about how fun it is to watch him play and how good he is?
Chuckle, chuckle. I fell the same way about posts that we should turn down Gameday (that will show them). I am not making this up, someone posted that.

I think he's the same as Lovett is for us. 5th year because of Covid exemption. Not sure what team would want to pick up a 6th year that quit on his team moving forward though. Maybe Kiffen. 🤣

I wonder if there is a limit to the number of years that you can play in only 3 games. With NIL, maybe there's a career there with AARP endorsements.

You only have five years once your clock starts ticking (excluding the COVID exception), so it only applies once

I wonder how this is impacting his academic endeavors

No offense, but how does this even remotely translate to Penn Staters like Stevens and Levis... guys who came here, played here, STUDIED here, spilled blood here, then moved on to find playing time elsewhere?

You explain it, i'll listen.

He transferred like Levis and Steven’s…that’s more than remotely translating, in the end it’s the same thing.

I imagine that for many young men football is their entire life and playing in the NFL their most fevernt dream. Seeing the writing on the wall is never easy.

Well, transferring off season vs. transferring after three games during a season is slightly different…..!
Slightly, but he said it doesn’t even remotely translate…and it does. In the end, they all left one team to go to another.

Sorry, not even close. Two guys played here and worked hard here for a long period of time. They didn't show up, hang out, and split. You can have an attachment to guys you get to know and care to follow their careers when they depart. You are not likely to give rat's ass about some kid who shows up, sleeps here a few nights, then boogities on cuz he got his panties in a bunch.

If you honesty see this another way, no point in arguing further. We'll just disagree on this one.

I dont believe Franklin is going anywhere, let me be clear on that, but if he did......would some of they posters hold Franklin to the same "#loyalty" test as players? If Franklin leaves in the middle of his contract is he too a treasonous and disloyal? What about coach Spence who left a few years ago?

Its an interesting dynamic, that the most critical posters on player mobility(even those that Graduated from penn state) are ones most protective of the coaches in most situations. Personally, I am little crazy, I sort of tend to root for kids like stevens and levis just slightly over coaches making $7mill a year that can leave with the direction of the wind.

The biggest difference is that he started for three years at Baylor. In fact, he’s got the second most passing yards in Baylor history. He transferred because after Matt Rhule left, the offensive system didn’t fit him. He went to Utah, and may have been promised a starting role (just an assumption, no insider info).
Levis and Stevens couldn’t get significant playing time. They were both stuck behind a long time starter, and neither were promised a starting role,
