Va Tech taking recruiting weekend up a notch a BIG NOTCH

It is very cool. Remember, early signing starts November 8th...so lots of kids (seniors in HS) are getting in their official visits. They are allowed 5 "official" visits, and given the time frame, it is very stressful. Their studies (academics) are important, some play other sports, etc., and on top of that, dozens of kids are trying to see colleges on weekends, all in a 9-week window. It's a challenging time for these families.

Why has this not been a normal type of thing in the wrestling world? If Football hosts multiple recruits on any given weekend why doesn't wrestling typically do this as well?

pretty much every home football weekend at PSU, any PSU team that's not on the road is hosting official and unofficial visits. PSU wrestling frequently has official and unofficial visitors at football games.

two things make VT's weekend interesting:

1. since wrestling recruiting is not covered like football or basketball recruiting, it's pretty unusual for fans to know which wrestling prospects are visiting, and when they are visiting
2. the collection of talent that is taking visits to VT this weekend is unusually high. it really is an impressive collection of visitors

College GameDay just decided last week that they were visiting VT this weekend. I don't think their presence had anything to do with organizing this weekend for VT wrestling. They saw a huge football game on the schedule, realized the stadium would be rocking, and the campus would have a buzz about it, and elected to go all in with hosting elite prospects.

Also this is a trade-off: the more recruits on campus, the more guys to bond together, but also the less one on one time they and their families gave with the coaches inside the 48-hr window. (Aside from the obvious benefits of more time with the coach, some guys and/or their parents need to be made to feel more important.)

Merits to both approaches, and coaches have to be able to embrace both, since not one method works for all recruits.
