Very nice (come back) W by the Lions @ the NIT dance.

Did you watch the game? Yes we won, but I wouldn't call it "Nice" by any stretch. I appreciate the effort from most of the players, but without Watkins, we are totally outgunned whenever we have to go to the bench.

Great shooting down the stretch saved another poor coating effort by Chambers. Temple coaching made Chambers look like a JV coach again.
Please explain how that game was on Chambers. When you’re team can’t make a shot, there’s not much a coach can do. I’m not a big Chambers fan, but sometimes the players have to play better.

Agree that there are nights when the shots just aren't going in but that's not an excuse for poor defense.

Watched HS hoops last night. BTW, how does the PIAA justify Valley Forge Military Academy? 6'7", 6'9", and 6'10" - 2 of which are from the Sudan?! Karma wins, as they lose to a bunch of football players from Sock.

I don’t remember watching a game where a team gave up so many backdoor layups.

I did not see the first half, but the third quarter looked like Temple was simply running a layup drill.

A win is a win, I guess.

I haven't watched much PSU basketball but did see two of the tOSU games and the first half of last night's game.

Ouch. A win is a win but PSU didn't do the brand any favors. A complete lack of energy and the arena being half full. The game sounded, over my TV speakers, like the first round of a high school girls basketball game on the local public service TV. There were so few people, a handful of kids changing was all that was picked up. And with the defensive errors, the lack of ball movement and just horrible basics created an awful viewer experience. It looked like a completely different team than the one that be tOSU. I'd like to give credit to the opponent, but when there is no movement and you are missing wide open shots that is hard to do. Perhaps this was great experience, to be in a one-and-done game, for this team. Looking forward to ND to see if we play better.

Did you see an Offense? It was clear we have no motion or offensive sets. Our offense is.....ball screen and try one and one penetration. The opponent coaches know to pack the zone, contest the 3's to stop us and Carr! Temple ran an offense and scored easily. We doubled the ball screen and made it easy for backdoor cuts. No adjustments!! If we didnt get hot down the stretch, we would have lost! It was clear who the better coach in that game was!

I saw several high pick and rolls where the pick and roll guy was WIDE open going to the hope and nobody delivered the ball. I get you want to shoot threes, but if you don't soften the paint area, the defense just has to defend the perimeter.

PSU led the BiG in isolation baskets (1 on 1). Carr and Watkins were excellent at screen roll but Watkins is unjured now.

Bostick, Wheeler, and Moore are not offensive threats so opponents can do a lot of double teaming when those guys are in the game.

I'm shocked people care about the NIT. I turned on the last 5 minutes. It was a very nice comeback but it reinforced the committee's decision to leave us out of the tournament and put us as a 4 seed in the NIT.

Yeah, we get it revenge. We know where you have stood on this issue since before the B1G tournament.
But, far be it for the TRUE PENN STATE fans to continue following THEIR team. Not YOUR team, but it is OURS and many will continue watching the Nittany Lions win, lose or draw.

Right--because I don't overhype our team I'm not a fan--gotcha
The NIT is a joke...we all know that...if you enjoyed getting to watch Garner and probably Carr more one time that's great. Glad you'll get to see them play ND. Hopefully they win and Garner's career gets to continue. He's an easy kid to root for.

I would rather watch PSU in the NIT than any complete tournament game. I could care less who wins any of those games (although I would prefer Big10 teams to lose), and really there is no reason to watch until the last 2 minutes anyway. If I didn't fill out a bracket, I wouldn't even check to see who won. I have an interest in whether PSU wins or loses, so I will watch all of their games. You stick to your team's games.

Then you're not a fan of the sport and have literally no basis for actually having an intelligent discussion about the sport if you only watch "your team". It's laughable that anyone would pass on better basketball to watch the NIT IMO

Interesting take, I haven't watched the recording yet but it was quite a bit different actually being there. The student section is NOTHING like when I was a student in the early 1990s, much better support.. and it really seemed pretty loud during those last 4.5 minutes.. Just my take, having been there.. :)

very good...I just watched the first half....looked like almost all of the upper section and most of the sections behind the baskets were empty.

I’ll watch the NIT if PSU plays. Otherwise, it’s only quality NCAA tourney matchups if I have time.

Laughable? Really? I’ve never picked a better matchup over watching my team. To each his own.

You're talking about a meaningless post-season tournament. It's like putting a scrimmage ahead of the SB. Last night the NCAA games weren't on so unless you're a Pens fan that could have watched Pens-Rangers you're weren't picking that over a better sporting event. Again, if you just wanted to see Carr and Garner in what could have been their last game I respect that. It was horrible basketball and pretty much everyone agrees about that...at least I think so

Now, yes, with Penn State football, given there's only 12 games + bowls/champions games/etc, I'd watch that over a better matchup....unless we're playing Georgia State or something then I'll watch until it's over and then flip between games (would never attend that type of game in person).

I don't post about basketball ever, so at least we agree there. Was just responding to one of your many ridiculous posts. Not sure why, because I know you are on here only to rile people up.

I'm here simply to discuss sports. Many here get "riled" up because they're here just to support Penn State. If you don't actually want to discuss things then don't respond. If you do, that would be even better.

Pretty typical first round NIT game. Nobody packs their home court for these games. The games usually start bad but eventually when it comes down to winning or losing guys are wired to compete and you get a good finish. They should be fired up for the chance to play at Notre Dame. Reaves showed up from the start. Kept the team in it. Harrar played with energy down the stretch and took away some of the pick and roll layups that Julian was getting lost on. Saturday at noon for the ND game.

Nobody here cares if it's meaningless to you. Penn State is in the NIT so Penn State fans care. Your opinions are meaningless here.

Let's pretend we win the NIT....what's the meaning behind it? Is that something you take pride in?
Honestly, it's the NIT

Temple scored 57 points and lost...yeah, stellar offensive plan.

Actually, two NCAA tourney games WERE played last night.

And I agree most of PSU’s performance was bad basketball. Moving on.

So then I guess today’s game proved the committee got it wrong putting Oklahoma in.

I don't take pride in meaningless things. I don't want a 69th place trophy. Or even a 50th place trophy if you want to see whomever wins the NIT is better than most 13-16 seeds.

You have posted a dozen or so times in a thread clearly titled as one about the game. Apparently the only objective is to mock those that cared enough to watch it or root for PSU. If you don't care, why even open the thread, much less reply incessantly? There might be another off topic thread to get your panties in a bunch about. Get on with it! We're looking forward to more useful chatter you can add.
