Can someone explain to me why a starting inside linebacker, in a position which is generally thin, was playing on the punt teamPer JF

Amen. Downright negligent on JF's part. No reason they couldn't have played a non-starter, even a freshman like Cooper (who ended up playing). Can someone explain to me why a starting inside linebacker, in a position which is generally thin, was playing on the punt team
Teams are using starters more and more on specials. Announcers made many comments about this during the ND game. There is no legit explanation for that. In fact, it's so unexplainable that when he went down I literally looked up Penn State's roster to see if there was a 3rd #5 player on the team.

Bs. Everyone does it these days. If they didn't you would be the first one on this board whining about giving up a long punt return.Amen. Downright negligent on JF's part. No reason they couldn't have played a non-starter, even a freshman like Cooper (who ended up playing).
I'd be hard pressed to find a college or NFL program that does not have some starters playing on special teams.
