We are Better-Theo Johnson to PSU

"A lot of the things I experienced, you can't fake. I've been on visits and seen how the coaches interact, how the players interact, how everybody is genuinely happy to be there. It's not football holding them together, it's a lot deeper than that. The more I thought about that and the more I realized how I value that being a family man myself, coming from a big family, that was something special for me and pushed [PSU] over the top."

I would hate to see him redshirted, then play 2 years and go pro.

A RS now gets to play in 4 games so it's not like they cannot get their feet wet. Look at B. Smith this year...played the whole year. The best players will get on the field....this isn't 1988 anymore. The staff has shown time and time again the best will play. Pat F did as a frosh...this is no longer an issue.

In all honesty though, I don't think it would be all that surprising to see Johnson redshirt. It's my understanding that he's played mostly WR in high school and has a lot to work on from a blocking standpoint. I like the Pat F comparisons but Pat came in as pretty highly regarded blocker.

I think one of Strange/Kuntz should be capable by next Fall to handle the TE2 duties if Johnson is not quite there yet. Enrolling early would definitely help his case.

Yeah, good point, but I don't think Franklin loves lanky TE's with hands. Certainly Franklin benefited from Mike on this team, but he has said in the past "TE's that just catch footballs are really slow receivers."

Kuntz was a state champ in some short distance hurdles event, so I'm not sure he's that slow. Plus I'm assuming he's matched against a LB or S and can out jump him for the ball.

looking for confirmation that Theo will enroll early ? Anybody?
fwiw, the same Allen Trieu article that PearlSUJam quoted above also states that:
"After a stressful recruitment, Johnson now gets his mind off recruiting. He said he felt today like he did before he started being recruited, a freedom he had not experienced in the last year and a half. He gets to have time with his friends and family now before he leaves home and enrolls at Penn State in January with the thought of competing right away."

Allot of these kids woulf be thrilled to go to the Cotton Bowl or any other distination . They all don't come from wealth like you . Go root for Pitt or if you have nothing positive to say , keep it to yourself . Always said allot of Penn State fans were sanctimonious and not very up on football ,

If you're satisfied playing in a second-tier bowl then perhaps you should go root for Pitt. The kids want more, so don't go pushing your mediocrity around here. Thank you.

I wish it were 1988. I would be skinnier and have more hair.

Rahne’s new 2020 attack mode:

1QB
1RB
5OL
4TE

Who needs wide receivers when you have tight ends.....Kent State will never know what hit them!

Well, what you need for a modern offense is receivers that can actually catch a football. And we really had only 3 and a half of those as Dotson was marginal in the clutch in a number of games. We had 2 TE's that could catch in Freiermuth and Bowers, and Hamler who dropped some but made up for it with the splash plays. If PSU had had 2 more receivers that could catch CJF might have just run the table.

So for 2020 CJF has to not only replace Bowers, but he needs another couple of dependable receivers. I'm not yet sold on Kuntz, as if he was a world beater he would have played some as a WR this season with all the disappointing results from the other WR's along with his still slim build.

Anyone know if T.Johnson is enrolling early? That would allow him the chance to get into the rotation from the first game....... But it's just great to have another talented TE along with all the new WR's to compete to actually catch footballs.....
