AWP 11/18 Rankings (Top 20 per Weight Class)
- this is their 1st rankings since their preseason rankings, so I won't provide last week's rankings in parenthesis
- I dropped these guys last season because they stopped performing weekly rankings. I'll add them for now, but will drop them in the future if they return to their prior mode
125: Nico - 4th
133: Conaway - 9th
141: Gulibon - 5th
149: Zain - 2nd
157: Nolf - 3rd
165: No PSUer
174: Nickal - 9th
184: Cutch - 13th

AVERAGE
125: Nico - 5th
133: Conaway - 9th
141: Gulibon - 6th
149: Zain - 3rd
157: Nolf - 3rd
165: No PSUer
174: Nickal - 10th
184: Cutch - 12th
197: McIntosh - 1st
Team: PSU - 2nd
Note: To be included in the average you have to be ranked in more than half of the rankings. As such, neither Rasheed no Johnson were listed. Also, WrestleStats, which is computer generated and as such has a tough time with those that RSed last year, skewed several of the averages. If you exclude their rankings you'd have:
Nico - 4th (5th w/ WS)
Conaway - 10th (9th w/ WS)
Gulibon - 7th (6th w/ WS)
Zain - 2nd (3rd w/ WS)
Nolf - 3rd (3rd w/WS)
Nickal - 9th (10th w/WS)
Cutch - 13th (12th w/WS)
McIntosh - 1st (1st w/WS)

I, and I'm sure I speak for all others that visit this site regularly, really appreciate the work you put into this site. We don't express that much and I'm certain we just take it for granted because you do this so regularly.

not much respect for matt mc.

Perhaps, but I don't have a problem with his ranking. He had a so-so season last year, though something seemed to click at B1Gs and NCAAs. For a preseason ranking, I think he was slotted where he was based on questions about whether the Mouse of the regular season or the Mouse of the postseason would show up. Plus, big movements in rankings are usually based on 3 things: 1) dropping some if you're defeated by someone ranked way below you, 2) rising if you defeat someon ranked way above you, 3) how did the other guys at the weight did.

I think the above #3 is what hurt Cutch this week. I'm going from memory, but I think there were only 2 guys in the weight class that above him that lost, and they were ranked way above him so they weren't going to be dropping 10-15 slots due to the loss. Cutch looked great in his first two dual matches. Unfortunately, neither guy was ranked above him, so it's hard to make a case for him to move in that situation. If he continues to rack up impressive wins, he's likely to jump some, but again that's somewhat based on how those above him do (if they have impressive wins, should they be vaulted by Mouse?). The computer generated rankings, which I believe are WrestleStats and those put out by SHP (and those don't come out until sometime in December, generally) may end up rating Cutch higher than those that go more on everybody's career body of work, but we'll have to wait to see if that's the case.

i know it really doesn't matter that much this time of year but he actually went down in one poll.

184 is extremely deep; Brooks also hasn't cracked the top 10 yet. McCutch could very well be better then last year and still finish round of 12 again.

Turns out that's actually a mistake on my part. InterMat shows that he was 14th last week, and is 14th this week. I went back and checked and realized that 2 weeks ago InterMat ranked him 13th, and last week they ranked him 14th, but I reversed it in last week's post. My mistake. I'll edit my OP.

For Mouse, winning against better competition will move him up. The LH kid was around #60, and the VT kid was an over-ranked #19 (I think). At this point, I see no disrespect at all.

I'm not sure if Amateur Wrestling News is posting a ranking this week. I got tired of waiting for them to post it, so I generated the Average Rankings.

I'll check tonight and tomorrow to see if AWN posts a rankings for this week, but I consider the Review completed for this week.
