125: Nico - 5th (5th)

141: Gulibon - 9th (9th)
149: Zain - 2nd (2nd)

197: McIntosh - 1st (1st)
285: No PSUer (No PSUer)
Team - 2nd (2nd)

The rule for the Average is a wrestler must be listed in half of the rankings to be included. Rasheed was in 6 of the 8 rankings, so he replaces Morelli at 165 in this week's Average. (Morelli was in 4 of the 7 rankings last week.) Amateur Wrestling News posted rankings this week, for the 1st time in 3 weeks, so this week's Average is a little bit of applies to oranges in terms of comparing it to last week's Average (which did not include the 2-week old AWN rankings). If the 2 computer generated rankings (WrestleStats and Dual Impact Index) are excluded from the Average, these would be the Average for the respective PSU wrestlers (with a comparison in parenthesis): Nico - 4th (up), Conaway - 8th (up), Gulibon - 8th (up), Zain - 2nd (same), Nolf - 3rd (same), Rasheed - 15th (same), Nickal - 5th (down), Cutch 13th (down), McIntosh - 1st (same), Team - 2nd (same).

Need some education. I would think PSU would be stronger in a tournament setting rather than a dual setting. Lacking a strong HWT or forfeiting at HWT would definitely hurt in a dual against Iowa, OSU or tOSU; not so much in a tournament I would think. Yet the rankings above show just the opposite; so as I said, educate me here.

The devil-is-in-the-details, so to speak. For the first time since Cael's been at PSU, he has an equally formidable dual and tournament team. Even giving up the 285 match to the top teams, the other 9 weight classes, HTH, match up favorably to other teams. In the case of the Tournament Indexes, Okie State, with 3 guys (Heil, Dieringer, Crutchmer) ranked #1 in many ranking services (vs our 2 for Flo, and 1 for WIN), actually overtakes our team balance.

Another factor is that ranking services do not consider bonus points, and I'd bet (if I was a betting man) dollars-to-donuts we'll have more bonus points at NCAA's than all other teams.

Thanks Roar!

lionlover, both are hurt by suspect strength of schedules. The Scuffle and Midlands, respectively, should take care of both.

Had to make minor edits to the 133-pound ranking, and therefore, the pound-for-pound and component rankings, due to the misidentification of a (non-PSU) wrestler for two earlier dual meets. The only Penn State wrestler who was affected was Nickal (11th pound-for-pound, instead of 10th), and none of the Penn State team rankings moved at all.

Thanks for the notification, SHP. I edited the Weekly Review to reflect the corrected P4P rank for Nickal.

Why does Mcutcheon get relatively low ratings? Guy seems to win most of his matches.

Cutch has had weak competition, so far...but it's coming...at the Scuffle and the B1G Season.

Man, Intermat must have really had Rasheed ranked high (20s? 30s?) going into the Rider match. Brennan dropped four spots to #19 after getting shown the lights on 12/19 yet our guy remains MIA in their top 20. In fairness, their does seem to be a good amount of parity at 65 behind the top hammers.

Fully updated, and Average added. Associated Wrestling Press did not post rankings this week.
