I have no sympathy for Pete on that one. Was Garber supposed to throw an 80 mph "fastball" down the middle so that Pete could keep the streak alive? Pete's the same guy who destroyed Ray Fosse at the plate to score the winning run in an all-star game. Nothing wrong with that either. Why, however, would he expect another player to be less than a total competitor against him?
