I can remember the Greg Garrity diving catch for the 1982 National Championship, and Lavar on the cover. What others have there been and which were the best!

I remember one cover that read "Prodigious Penn State." I can't recall the photo, but I think it might have been 1982.

Another one had the defeat of #1 Notre Dame in 1990. Some defensive player was tackling a ND player, but I can't recall either guy.

Another had Freddie Scott after we beat Michigan in 1994.

LaVar was on the pre-season 1999 cover.

Probably SI had a cover shot of Mike Guman's failed TD atempt vs Alabama.

Did SI do regional covers back in the day?

Oh, man, how could I forget that "No.1 At Last" cover? Well, I guess I really do know "how" I forgot it ... darn Father Time.

I also now recall that SI article in 1970 when Colorado routed us something like 41-13. Dan Jenkins wrote the article about the end of Penn State's winning/non-losing streak.

Jenkins, a TCU alum, just blasted Penn State for being an "Eastern school." In the article, Jenkins claims that Penn State's streak was really only worth something like 8 games not 31, since the Lions only played about 8 real teams. Jenkins, a Texas native, was one of the key writers in 1969 who trumped up Texas over Penn State when both were unbeaten. The POTUS, coaxed by OU's Bud Wilkinson, later stamped UT as the sole national champion that year.

Anyway, I had little respect for Dan Jenkins after that article (hey, I'm Italian, and we tend to hold grudges a little longer than we should). I also find it ironic that his daughter Sally, carried on her father's legacy of ignorant ridicule of Joe Paterno and Penn State.

Note: another Italian with a lengthy hold on grudges later gave Dan Jenkins’ alma mater something to remember the following season (1971) when Penn State absolutely crushed TCU 66-14.

The only ones that matter were...
We Were Penn State
Special Report: The Failure and Shame of Penn State

After those, SI is little more than a liner for my dog to shit on.

In my opinion, those were the only ones that DON'T matter! SI wasn't the only form of sports media to jump the gun and try to bury Penn State like ESPN did. It was their chance to sensationalize a big story to sell more magazines without all the facts. I don't condone their actions, but let's face it, they were both there when things started to turn around to be kind to Penn State. They have a tremendous affect on the general sports fans, so let's hope they jump on our bandwagon once we win our next B1G Championship and subsequent MNC.

Here you go... The listerd players might not be the feature, but they are on there.

I remember being really irked when Ozzie Newsome was on the cover the week after the 1987 Fiesta Bowl. There was a little tiny picture of a Penn State fan in one of the corners waving a pom-pom or something.
