What is your favorite piece of Penn State memorabilia that you own?

Authenticated JoePa autographed football used in practices complete with signed letter from the WR coach at the time who verifies its authenticity. The daughter of Illinois FB coach at the time (Lou Tepper) obtained it for a charity auction, which I won.

I have roughly 60 autographed mini helmets and footballs....I have JVP football and full size helmet. Cappy on full size old style helmet with #22 on and a football. I have running back row including Franco, Mitchell and all the other greats. I have linebacker U wall with most of the greats. A football with all three #31 all-Americans. But my favorite piece I think is the football signed by entire 2012 team

SI magazine with Garrity on the cover and my Sugar Bowl game ticket underneath I set to the picture border.

Haha. A $20 ticket!

A copy of the book “Are You a Penn Stater?” that came out in early 80s with a short shelf life. Talked about a checklist of things you should do as a Penn Sater, e.g. climb Mt. Nittany, walk across parking lot 80 in winter, do it on 50 yard line. Coincided with the poster of same name.

Signed Evan Royster football, BIG championship football, team signed WVB volleyball and poster, and signed notes from the WVB ladies for volunteering at team events.

Ticket stub and program from my first PSU game.....Maryland 1966. I was in kindergarten.
(FYI....the attendance that day was 40,000)

Also, an autographed copy of "Football my way".

Clump of grass from '87 Fiesta Bowl turf. We went down on the field after Gifto iced the game and I grabbed a clump of grass and stuffed it inside the blue foam #1 finger I was wearing. Forgot all about it til I got home from the trip and was unpacking.

Eventually I hafta frame it with a nice picture from the game.

A Skeller table from the 80's and a piece of the goal post from the Nebraska Game

About the only “ memorabilia” that I have is a basketball yearbook from the early ‘70s when John Bach was HC. I was in Jordan Hall and most of the basketball players were there, too, so I got to know them fairly well so I’ve kept the yearbook as a momento.

However, that’s not the best thing. There is one more item. As I mentioned above, I was a dorm rat, Jordan Hall, never cared about the frats or apartments. So, we had a couple of pretty good soccer players there and they thought they could win the IM title if they could recruit one more player. They got some kid to transfer and off they go.

Now, I’m a typical fat white kid who can’t jump over the phone book and whose soccer skills are somewhere between nil and pathetic. But when the guys needed a body for practice I gave it a shot. I went to all the games as a spectator, not knowing that the guys put my name on the roster.

Yep, they won the IM title and even though I never made an appearance, I got a medal for being a part of the winning team. It’s more like a charm, with a block “S”, the top half blue and the bottom half is white. Other than the diploma, it’s my personal treasure.

I lost track of the guys, like we all do, with the passage of time, which I regret, and in a recent alumni magazine, I saw the name of one of the players in the memoriam section. It was sad to see that, he was a couple of years younger than me. But the medal is a reminder of the friends I had and which is really the only thing that connects me to place anymore.

One of these:

Program from the 1983 Sugar Bowl
Photo of Franco Harris and me at a tailgate
Beaver stadium model that is in my office
A "This is Nittany Lion Country" cloth wall banner thing that I had in my dorm room and is now in my basement home gym
A blue and white license plate circa 1981 that I removed from a campus police car one drunken Saturday night
My senior year season football ticket with all holes punched

LOL, I remember those.

Hard to decide... 2014 National Championship Women's Team Volleyball signed by the whole team, game jerseys from Mike Gesicki (Blue White game in 15) and Mike Zordich (OSU '11), or a painting from Matt Rice of JoePa.

all are cool but I'm betting the painting is very good.
I've seen some of Matt's and Aaron Maybin's work here in Baltimore and its excellent.

Well...
too many to list, but some of the more unique items

my favorite acquisition story is the 8ft long piece of metal seating(bench) from the north endzone expansion

most unique a 1940's engraved walking cane that has a pull out map of the campus in the cane itself

oldest : 1902 Image History of Penn State Book and Pennant (1955 Freshman Dink with the Pennant)

100 years old this past year 1918-1919 Student Handbook

all are good but that cane is awesome.

The Blue Band did a full half-time tribute to the 50th anniversary of Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians. The band spelled out "Fred" across the field. My wife searched and found a photo showing this. She bought a framed copy and presented it to me for my birthday. After all my name is "Fred", too!

Second favorite is a mounted and framed photo of us, given by brother, showing us and our wives savoring the '87 Fiesta Bowl NC in his hotel room. We celebrated with corn chips, a can of Coors for me and a can of Old Milwaukee for him. Wives had wine.

I collect postcards, and have collected some nice ones of Penn State over the years. Some of them are scanned and posted on Flickr.

If I had to pick a favorite, it would be this panoramic view @ 1905-1909

As a long time library employee, I also have a Library Handbook for Students for 1943-1944.

My favorite sports related item is from the 1993 basketball loss to Indiana. A.K.A. the Sam Lickliter game. I have one of those masonite squares that the cheerleaders would use to protect teh court floor when they would bang their megaphones. The reason I have it is because some jabroni threw it up in the air after the game and it hit me on the head.

My newest one is a coffee mug from Shutterfly showing the winning TD vs Iowa--from a picture I took at the game. Others are an old Field Hockey yearbook--some time in the 2000s. Why? I took the cover photo. One other, though it is put away, is a picture of the Lion statue that my first GF painted from a post card. Mrs KG doesn't like it (she's reasonable in most other things), so I've followed Rule 1 here ("The Wife Is Always Right").

I have a ton of stuff. I had the best Penn state room in pa until we moved. I still have over 40 framed pictures dear lord.

My favorite thing is my degree. I was very proud getting it and hope my daughters go there. My once daughter said she is absolutely going there.

So that may be my future favorite thing.

Piece of the goal post from the '82 win against Pitt and Dan Marino.
I have pieces from the 1983 Wins against WVU and Alabama. Kid in my dorm had a hacksaw and even though he didn't go to the games he went down to Old Main after the wins when he heard they tore down the Goal Posts and cut off a big pieces and brought it back to the dorm and cut us all smaller pieces - it was pretty cool.

I think I could give you significant opposition to that claim;)

Now it is one tenth of what it was. I will try to find old pics.

I started collecting media guides around 1975. Stopped ordering them when they removed Joe's stats. I assume that situation has been corrected.

I began ordering what was then called a "brochure" in 1965 ... Rip Engle on the cover. I called Penn State's office that produces them when the scandal hit, and I was told there would not be one made in 2012-13. I have the rest now from 2014-18. What's nice about the ones under James Franklin is a list of the incoming freshmen.

I have lots of Penn State collectibles - many programs and magazines, footballs and signed pictures.

But I have every blue white illustrated, starting back when it was "catch lions fever" back in the 1980s. It is kinda cool to look back over the years at our history, especially the yearly recruiting recap write ups. Looking back at who was projected to be a sure fire superstar and how they ended up

Great post!

A photo of my sons age (at the time) 10 and 12 and me with Joe. It was taken by my HS Coach Joe Sarra and at the Beav on a day after spring practice. Also the pic on the left which CJF wears a shirt (gift for my 65th) commemorating the field dedication in my name.

1985 season ticket stubs. I went to all the games with my dad. He bought his buddys ticket who he split seats with. They just had/were having their first baby that Aug or Sept and were worried about the cash. Those were some good memories with the old man. I was probably the happiest kid in the Commonwealth those 7 Saturday afternoons.

Have the program from the gala in 1986 at the Philadelphia downtown Sheraton celebrating Penn State's 100 years of Football Excellence. That's a night I will never forget. Bob Hope did his 10 minute bit, but Walker Lee Ashley's speech stole the show. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Great memories! Of course Joe did his thing too which brought the house down!
