Deleware St is ranked 357 of 358 D1 teams. Quinnipiac is #253. Nebraska is 166. VCU is higher, but we have beet at least 3 teams this year that are ranked ahead of VCU.ummm---those two weren't 1-17 in the league.
I was replying to your point about similar posts after MSU or Iowa---I thought you meant the losses. Those 2 aren't in the league?? Nebraska has better players than at least 2 of the 3
Gotcha, I misunderstoodI was replying to your point about similar posts after MSU or Iowa---I thought you meant the losses.
Neither was Nebraska, but don’t question “Mr Facts” (funny that in listing two “facts”, he can’t even get one of the two correct).ummm---those two weren't 1-17 in the league.
VCU certainly wasn’t a “buy game”…it was at their place, and we would have been a several point underdog.I have facts, too? Winning against 2 ranked B10 opponents after losing 8(?) players to the portal with zero incoming recruits when Shrew took over. And, W/L record would be over .500 if we didn't have to cancel 3 buy games in the OOC. Buy games = wins.
Yeah, 2 buy games and a home and away seriesVCU certainly wasn’t a “buy game”…it was at their place, and we would have been a several point underdog.
Let play this game:11-13.I have facts, too? Winning against 2 ranked B10 opponents after losing 8(?) players to the portal with zero incoming recruits when Shrew took over. And, W/L record would be over .500 if we didn't have to cancel 3 buy games in the OOC. Buy games = wins.
Another fact is our incoming recruiting class. 4 players that rank as 4* recruits in a recruiting database (247, Rivals, or ESPN) - Kanye Clary, Evan Mahaffey, Kebba Njie, Jameel Brown.
5 recruits in the top 250. From bottom to top, this is easily our best class ever (I will take this class over the Carr classes any day, more well-rounded and larger).
We can play this game all day long of ignoring whatever facts you want to while acknowledging others.
Year 1 after 8 people transfer, best recruiting class in program history signed. Trying to write Shrews off at this point is absolutely idiotic. If we are not dancing by year 4, we can revisitLet play this game:11-13.
Game over
Woah!@!What!!!Year 1 after 8 people transfer, best recruiting class in program history signed. Trying to write Shrews off at this point is absolutely idiotic. If we are not dancing by year 4, we can revisit
When did I say that? 4 years allows him to get his players through.Woah!@!What!!!
ALREADY MOVING THE GOAL POSTS LOL
I thought it was year 3? Lmao
It’s quite the life…make completely ridiculous posts and act like a complete dbag, and then when you’re completely wrong, throw away that userid and start a new one. If Lonnie White had suited up this fall for PSU, it would certainly be a “different” poster laying down his “facts” today."Better players are coming. Once again, this was year 1 under Shrews. I think that this topic is very premature. Wait until year 4 before such things."
Almost everyone has agreed it should take no longer than 3.When did I say that? 4 years allows him to get his players through.
Awesome team. 3-17.Nebraska beat Ohio State tonight. They were shooting lights out, just like they were against us.
Big men typically take longer to get strong enough to compete in the BiG.Patience.
I know little about basketball. But the first time head coach in his first year had eight guys transfer out. So replacing a coach, his first year as a head coach, eight guys leave because of the way the firing was handled. Yet he has a competitive team.
From what I have read he has very good recruiting class coming in. Which I assume means he is getting guys he likes for his system and style of play. In basketball a great recruit can make immediate impact but I suspect the guys we are getting will take half a season to gell.
Patience.
More length and more 3 point shooters. What Shrews did with this roster after the transfers was like watching Houdini with blue smoke and mirrors. Better days are ahead for sure. This business of putting a time frame on his success is a bunch of hogwash. If we all want a true basketball culture to emerge at PSU it may take 4 to 6 years. The team now has much more structure after just one year. The first thing that needs to happen is for the team to start having players stick with the program, which has been a problem for ever in basketball. What do you suggest?
354th (out of 358 teams) in Pomeroy’s “FT Rate” statistic, and 353rd in % of points scored from the FT line. It’s definitely something that’s hurt us this season.Another point about our inability to dribble drive is that we don't draw fouls off of it like most other teams. Most of our losses were decided at the FT line. Last nights game is the latest example. PSU 1-3. ILL 15-17.
What do you suggest?
Great 8??? Do you mean Elite 8? A consistent elite eight team would be among the blue bloods. Honestly, those are pretty huge expectationsOne word. Recruiting. With NIL freedom, we are in PA, it should be easier to make a consistent Great 8 contending team from the talent pool that is considered local.
Yes I do mean Elite 8. The market Penn State resides in should make this a grand opportunity, due to the NIL, for someone to at least create a positive legacy of winning at PSU MBB. We are finally in the day and age of college players being compensated evenly.Great 8??? Do you mean Elite 8? A consistent elite eight team would be among the blue bloods. Honestly, those are pretty huge expectations
Imagine what this season could have been in all the players who transferred had stayed? Guys like Brockington would have made a huge difference.I have a lot of confidence in Shrews. He definitely has the program going in the right direction. He is building a strong culture I believe. I like how we are defensive minded and play gritty, tough D for the most part. That has kept us in games. Flush away last night, an anomaly.
Looking ahead I think we have some solid recruits coming in so Shrews can recruit and coach. I believe we will see an upgrade in talent as the years go by with Shrews. We need a couple big men who can hold their own with the good big men in the conference. I agree with another poster who referenced transition offense. We don't seem to be able to get out and run very well.
All in all I am optimistic about PSU hoops and look forward to a Big Dance bid by year 3 of Shrews tenure. Would love it by next year but maybe too early.
AKA Greg Oden for Thad Matta and tOSU.Didn't read everything so obviously I might repeat some things:
2. Find a way to land a sure fire first round blue chipper for a 1 and done. This does a lot for a program: "With the 3rd Pick in the NB Draft, the Blazers select XXXX XXXXX, Penn State" and then the talking heads can say what a great job Penn State does getting people to the leag
