What's your assessment of Mark Hall so far?

Valencia is as unique as Hall. Happen to be same weight and year as Hall so it makes Hall look “bad”. In reality, he is a top flight wrestler.

As far as progression, it’s easier to hunt than be hunted. Everyone is giving him their best shot, and people scout for him. Defend the slide by. Defend the cement mixer. If you have 30 wrestlers on your schedule all scouting to beat and nuetralize you, itsgoing to show up in the scorebook eventually.

FWIW I am not a big Mark Hall fan. I saw him streaming fortnite on twitch and he didn’t give shields to his teammate. That’s an unforgivable sin in my book.

Never ending babble.

Being concerned about Mark is the equivalent of Warren Buffett being concerned about that hundred dollar bill he misplaced.

Fortnite is a video game. Think halo, goldeneye, call of duty, but with the ability to build yourself cover.

In my defense, my nephew and niece are 9/11. They love the game, I love them, so I started playing.

That doesn’t explain why I still play.
LOL. My son is 20. Hates Fortnite. I asked him why... he said I am not f-ing 14 years old....

My assessment is that Mark Hall is an exceptional wrestler and PSU and their fans should be proud to have Mark on the team.

One of my assistant coaches during baseball season was giving a congrats speech after one of our games. As he is going through it, he says to the boys, you need to practice more at home and less time playing fortnite. Just like that his wife, yells from the assembled moms....Hey Coach you need to get more of your yard work done at home and less time playing fortnite. The boys and the crowd all busted out in laughter.

To this day im not sure if she meant yard work...or...Yard work.;):oops::D

Yes, "first world" problem indeed.

Just raising a question based upon semi-detached observations, which many of us engage . . . or indulge in. Isn't that what these fora (forums) are about?

Hall is a rare talent. Likely a 4 time finalist and potentially even better ... if that is possible.

But "criticism" (critique) can also be construed as a form of caring (or possibly a kind of love, as Andre Breton thought) . . . right?

Constructive criticism, of course, is primarily the province of a coach's position. The day-in and day-out routines of the the sweat-stained and soaked room.

But on occasion, the "peanut gallery" may have something to offer . . . or vomit up ... like a hairball in the stomach.

I suspect that may even be a secret desire on the part of those who weigh in regularly on these threads.

"So do you have a plan . . .?" . . . Well, um, maybe . . .

Okay, I'm impressed: an Andre Breton reference and use of the word fora (even though we're not in ancient Italy) in the same post. Bravissimo!

Like David Taylor said you never want to get into a scramble with Mark Hall....That is coming from a GREAT scrambler himself....One of the best in the world....

Yes, much of the wrestling community (like most of American society, which tends both to celebrate and drown on the surface of things) is routinely threatened by and defensive about folks who dare to think, read, and write a bit critically or imaginatively . . . whether or not your reply is mocking in tone. It's amazing how people can appreciate technical skill in one area (e.g., athletics or music) but become apprehensive about it other areas (e.g., language, jurisprudence, or philosophy).

I will never mock intellect or creativity, so long as they are being used genuinely and constructively.

Mark is awesome and a very unique talent. He provides a lot of 'wow' moments and he and Zahid athletically are head and shoulders above everyone else. That said for all of his Junior success, 6 time state champ, freshman national champ, I agree 'slightly' that he should be more dominant against 'ranked' wrestlers. He has no issue with his skill, athleticism, strength.... My one complaint is he seems to conservative and allows lesser talents to stay in the match too long. Just imagine what he could do it he would let go and attack all match long with high pace like Nick or Nolf. He can tech most guys in the country if he adopted that style. I also think he would have more success against Zahid if he shot a minimum of 10 times per match. This is his Junior year, time to let it rip.

Today's performance awed me. Awesome, solid, amazing, flawless, dominant. 4-0 with a ride out vs Zahid are you kidding me? Mark's strongest match of his career - bravisimo.

I assess that I am taller than Mark. I saw him on the concourse at Sojka. I said to myself "Hey! That's Mark Hall. Wow, I am taller than he is."

I did not try to engage him in conversation. I assumed he was busy :)

How did you compare in size when you followed him into the men's room?

I may be reading into the match but Z looked tired in the 3rd period. He looked beat, both ways as Mark rode him into the Arizona sunset.

Two great wrestlers, Mark squared up to him and never gave an inch. Kudos to him. So happy for him to remove that shadow that some seemed to cast over Mark since the NCAA's in March. No reason to ever doubt Mark Hall, ever.
