Class of 2013 kids should be ready to make a big contribution this year:
  • Brenneman was injured but this is his year to step up with James gone at TE
  • Sickels has to step up with Barnes & Olaniyan gone at DE
  • Mahon & Nelson were our highest rated OL. Last year they were young. No excuses this year.
  • Same for Cothran (DE) and Cothren (DT)
  • J Smith and A Smith were both 2* prospects. Will they make an impact or will they get passed on the depth chart?
  • Obviously Hack(QB) & Bell (LB). Hoping for breakout years from these two.
Class of 2014 had more higher rated players:
  • Gesicki gets a shot at TE along with Brenneman
  • Godwin & Blacknall already played at WR last year and should improve
  • Thompkins could be a 4th WR and play special teams
  • Farmer should see some reps at LB
  • Sorrell & Wright might be a year away but will see some PT on the OL
Most class of 2015 kids will probably have to wait:
  • Barkely might see some action at RB
  • Palmer should get PT on the OL but Bates might have to wait
  • Johnson & Charles have too many kids ahead of them at WR. RS or special teams.
  • Bowen & Carter might have to wait at LB, especially if Kline is healthy
  • Buchholz is also probably too young
  • Taylor, Reid, & Kelly have plenty of guys ahead of them at DB. Perhaps one of them will see action.

I'd go with Gesicki, Godwin, and Blacknall on offense. Sickels and Cabinda on defense.

It will interesting to see what happens with Juwan Johnson. Admittedly it's just base on hype, but he may add another dimension to the WR position based on his size/speed combo.

Thompkins is another interesting story. We didn't have anyone with his speed in the slot last year. If he's good, we may see a lot of him.

My predictions:
Sickels is going to be a BOSS. Next to Zettle and Johnson who will both draw double teams at times, he should get plenty of shots at the QB.

Barkley and Johnson are uber prospects who will be too good not to have on the field this year.

I Think Barkely and Lynch and will split carries by 3 rd gamę. Barkely will be to good to keep off the field.

It may be interesting to see Mark Allen in action. He seems to be overlooked (no pun intended) in these type of conversations, but he was 2nd on the B/W game depth chart at RB.

RB I expect will start with:
1) Lynch
Others
-Scott
-Thomas (if healthy)
-Allen

With Barkley and Robinson waiting in the background if the others don't impress enough in camp. There is really only room to have 4 RBs get "some" practice reps.

Carter was listed by recruiting sites as a DE, but is bigger now and likely will play some DT this year. When did he play LB, 7th grade?

I expect both Taylor and Reid to play this year, which may push the Smiths to the back of the line. Reid is ready physically to compete at Nickle, and Taylor could play special teams or anywhere in the secondary as he's pretty big for a CB.

I think Taylor is a lock to RS because he is coming off ACL injury last year. Kind of like Worley last year. Worley is a candidate to break out on D, if he can find snaps.

Yea, the acl may play a part in it. I've had 2 acl surgeries and each person recovers at a different rate. Even with 18 year old young men. We'll see.
