Realistic impact on Bowl Games

Competitors want to win at anything they do but that doesn't make it meaningful.
These are simply scrimmages to award teams that had good, mediocre or just not horrible years. It's a scrimmage. A nice trip where you get free stuff but the game itself is pointless and always has been aside from 2-3 bowls a year--sometimes one. That's why they're dying--thankfully. 40 years too late but thankfully.
In summary, the bowls game may be meaningful to the players, coaches, students, and fans, but they aren't meaningful to LandoComando, so they shouldn't be played.

Got it!

No, the aren't meaningful because there's a playoff--the outcomes mean nothing. It's a scrimmage
You can think I'm crazy all you want--the bowls are going to die--we're seeing that already

Ya, I don’t think anyone will particularly care that the game is designated as the “Cotton Bowl” or “Orange Bowl”, they care it’s a playoff game. Perhaps the Rose Bowl will still carry some additional gravitas.

Overall what we knew as the “bowl game” will be hampered. It was a stand alone game with events all week. This would seem to be much less prevalent with players, and fans, looking at the big picture playoff.
The players amd coaches certainly won't care if they're playing in the Orange Bowl or the Toilet Bowl. It's the playoffs.

I do think it will still mean a little of something to the broadcast networks, the fans, and certainly the venue/city.

As a fan, it will be strange seeing the bowls played at different days and times than they have been for years.

The Rose Bowl should just become FBS's version of the Super Bowl with all other games played at the higher seed

Nope. The Rose Bowl has to be played on January 1. There is the New Year's Tournament of Roses Parade beforehand. This is been going on for well over 100 years.

Eventually the bowls won't exist at all--you realize that right?
FBS playoff will become like the FCS playoff--we'll have at least 14 in 2026 then at least 20 in 2028.
The Rose Bowl wouldn't be played on the first in any scenario at that point.
Traditions die--that's life--the only one that's likely to stay intact is Army-Navy. Everything else is temporary.

Maybe the smaller bowls could create their own tournament for the next 12 teams much like the NIT in basketball.

I’m curious to see how the new format will effect the NY6 bowl games’ financials and the economic impact on the host cities.

Teams and fans used to come into town early and enjoy several days of activities. They’d fill up hotels, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues. They’d buy a ton of merch. The Bowls would host and manage a lot of the logistics.

Fans would travel knowing this might be the last time they see their team. Now, most will have to decide which, if any, Bowls they will attend. Do they just attend their home game if they’re lucky? Ticket sales at the Bowls will be impacted.

Teams will end up eating the tickets they are required to buy.

Will the bands travel to each Bowl game?

The list goes on. There is no doubt that these games have become “made for TV” productions. It will be interesting to see how that impacts the “in person” experience. 🤔
Tv money goes up, but no question that ticket sales and local economic impact overall will be diminished. Traveling for three to four games is not feasible for most.

LandoComando rejoices. Hopefully we see some PSU kids do this as the season progresses!

Whoa. That was about as predictable as the sun rising in the east. In fact, I predicted it yesterday morning in post #19 above in this very thread.

This is a significant development...and this kid won't be the last, believe me.

Lol this is about a RS...not their record
You and others need to comprehend the rules before commenting

Don't be so naive. The question is not his RS. The question is where will he be playing next year. Hint: it won't be Louisville.

An equally important point is that you can expect more guys to start going this route now when their teams have been eliminated from playoff contention. The rationale is similar to sitting out bowls. The same arguments apply.

So, he's quitting.

Hopefully all his credits transfer to where ever he ends up next! Hahahaha, what a joke college football has become.

The point I've been making to Lando for over two years now as he blathers on about the bowls being meaningless, which by the way they now largely are outside the playoffs, is that the same new rules of the road can just as easily apply to the regular season once a team has been effectively eliminated from playoff contention.

We're seeing this now in its various manifestations, to include how the redshirt rules are being navigated, and we're going to see more of it. Honestly, it's hard to blame the players for looking out for their own interests first and foremost in the new Wild West of college football.

It's not...its about eligibility. He's transferring. Never said he was staying. It had nothing to do with being eliminated. He wants another year to play. It has nothing to do with bowls game. He wouldn't be doing this if it didn't give him another year to play

We aren't. We're seeing kids save eligibility. Let me know when someone does it when they're not saving a year.

You think so? Would he be doing this if Louisville were still in contention for a playoff spot and the visibility that goes with it? Somehow I doubt it.

Lando, the sun rises in the east.

((This post is for purposes of a scientific study aimed at determining how many pages Lando will devote to arguing about the stated observation.))

Either way it's protecting a red shirt as he has the right to do

Once you grasp it is different than kids just sitting out because their team isn't a contender.
