Now the question is--do Vandeross and Gleason portal after their performances today? Tricky era to be a coach--could actually hurt your team next year if they perform well in a bowl game and someone tries to steal them

When the alternative was to be the red-headed stepchild in a conference where we were resented and screwed over from Day One, that lineup looks positively peachy to me, Pat. I'd take it to this day.

That’s the only way Pitt could sack Drew. With 30 men on the field. That would make it more fair but unfortunately for the Pitters that’s a penalty.

Classy Pat skipped the post game handshake. Maybe he was too embarrassed after losing his 6th straight to a MAC cellar dweller. The new Pitt AD had to go apologize to the Toledo coach.
True if you look at it from the perspective of super conferences. I think college sports would be a lot better off -- for all schools -- if geography mattered. Travel expense, fan attendance, time for academics -- all would be better served by playing the regular season locally.
Form 8 true conferences based on geography and then have a playoff using the NY6 bowls with only the conference winners. The "preseason" interconference games would not eliminate teams but would establish a basis for seeding. This is essentially the NFL model without wild cards. A 16 game playoff with the first round as it is today would also work. Smaller conferences could enable the elimination of conference championship games. Those only became necessary as the conferences grew to the point of needing divisions.
It was a long OT. I'll give The Duzz the benefit of the doubt and say he probably just needed to pee.

You have to be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome...or maybe Abused-Wife Syndrome...feeling gratitude for your victimizers to have any warm feeling for this dirtbag league.
Then again, most of the teams in this conference have been long conditioned to bend over with thanks to their two overlords. But before joining, we had our own tradition and history. We never needed Ohio State or Michigan to feel good about that record.
Obviously hindsight is 20-20 but one yard away from the goal line and your team having laid it all out there, I agree: you have to go for the win there.
Hating the Big Ten is fine but you have to acknowledge the benefits. The only other real option is the SEC. Then you'd complain about everyone cheating, their being no academics and different schools being catered to
The reality is many here still want us to be an Independent (see you talking about the past) when we aren't ND. And even ND will eventually be a Big Ten program.
Which conference does not resent psu? Who will kiss your arse? Do you think any of those teams on the Eastern conference list like psu?
Joe played a much tougher schedule than we play now. Bama, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Miami, FL, etc
Voltz, good Lord, man, do you remember when we used to play those teams...and we were the Eastern equivalent of Ohio State and Michigan? Life was pretty good then. I mean, the refs were on our side in those days. Look it up.
We were hated and resented from Day One in the Big Suck. They went out of their way to drum in the message that we'd never have the same status as their Two Sacred Cows.
Look, it is what it is. There ain't no going back. Just don't tell me that I should be grateful for it.

Being an Independent isn't a possibility but I'd rather be in an Eastern conference with all the old rivals, some ACC refugees, plus a few games against respectable intersectional opponents.
Joe tried to make it happen but should have waited a few more years. It might have fallen into place. As it was, he came to realize early on that the move to the Big Suck was a Big Mistake.
Supposedly, the Duzz was just about to reach out to shake his hand, and the Toledo coach called another time out.
I doubt that it's true but it did make me laugh.....
I thought he was off the field quickly as they showed him immediately entering the tunnel. I just assumed he did a quick drive by handshake postgame but thought the timing didn’t really work out for that.
And then we'd be in the ACC suing the conference trying to escape
Joe and Penn State did the right thing to abandon the Eastern Conference alliance--look at how bad those old Big East teams are now.
All we had to do was unite the old Eastern independents and it would’ve had the makings of one of the best conferences in the country:
Florida State
Miami
Penn State
Pitt
South Carolina
Syracuse
Virginia Tech
West Virginia
Ohio State, BYU, Ucla, Pitt when they were actually good. Penn State played as tough and often tougher schedule as anyone.
They showed a clip of him as the game ended. He was on one knee watching, stood up when the try failed, and immediately waved the team straight to the locker room.
In his defense…….which really hurts to do…. There were several fights during the game. And the first time Toledo thought they won the entire team roared across the field towards the Pitt team.
He may have just wanted to avoid trouble.🤷🏻♀️
