Pick a player who maybe hasn’t lived up to your expectations that we NEED to step up. For me it’s Shane Simmons and it’s not even close. 5 star DE at a position that has become unexpectedly thin. Shane showed glimpses in the Fiesta Bowl, but was a non factor last year when he came back from injury. I love the kid’s enthusiasm and spirit for all things PSU especially him recruiting other kids to PSU, but this year he needs to break out. My runner up is Ellison Jordan who has battled injuries, but still hasn’t backed up his 4 star UA AA pedigree.

Agree with Simmons. YGM and Toney have been more productive. Needs to shed the injury bug.

I don’t recall Simmons as a 5 star recruit. Regardless, he is not a 5 star talent from what I’ve seen.
Two players we need to step up would be Cam Brown and Justin Shorter. Brown has certainly had his chances to to do but hasn’t done it yet. And the offense needs a taller receiver and he seems to be the best candidate to get it done.

Shane started out as a 5 star but dropped after some of the elite camps. But you are right, he is still one of the highest rated guys from his class and has yet to contribute much

Fans, go ahead and make generalizations. But calling out specific players is not really productive for any program. Remember when we were 20, some good days some bad. Sometimes I'd rather have a good time than work hard. Love Shane Simmons and his mom. His time will come.

These kids are playing big time college FB so I’m sure they can handle some constructive criticism. I’m actually saying we NEED Shane to step up and be disruptive. I’m not calling him a bum or saying anything other than the obvious. I love the kid’s character and his family was great with the awesome video welcoming CJF on his official visit. A high character kid no doubt, but on the field we need him and I feel he can be a difference maker. I’m sure he’s heard worse from his coaches and even his family.

to be fair many of the players that have had hard times living up to expectations have had serious string of injuries. in some cases they were RS with no injury and then get injured when they can play. that was Johnson's issue. these guys wind up with few opportunities to advance and develop. this is why 4 game RS rule helps. we get everyone in the games and find out. if Reid had not had the RS for his actual ACL then he would have been screwed. Shane has had less than a full season of games to play.

Stop you're bickering. Perhaps the appropriate topic is who would most benefit the team by having a break out year?

In no particular order, my top ten:

Tommy Stevens
Walker
Simmons
Shorter
Hansard
Oweh
Slade
Miranda
Brooks
Dotson

Good list there, Indy. I’d add somebody in the secondary who can actually intercept passes ... and maybe even return them for 6.

Indy, I’ll add in our kickers and our returners.

We need to have H U G E improvements here or we are doomed to giving away more games.
