Why Foley Won't Address Ref Corruption

Something occurred to me about this subject. Foley said he was going to write something more detailed about it, and we haven't heard a peep from him since then.

Now consider this possibility. The powers that be who oversee the refs probably have the authority to bar individuals from places of competition. The refs certainly have the authority to eject individuals who overstep their boundaries during an event.

This is just speculation on my part, but Foley may have received a private message to stay away from that topic or risk being barred from future events. This would certainly explain why he never said another word after his initial post.

they look past russians mobsters so its not that much of a stretch that they control their news media too.

which is ironic considering foleys uber SJW status on everything American.

Or, he's being paid a salary not to write anything negative about the UWW.
Yeah, I'm going with Occam's Razor here.
I remember that Foley openly wrote that he works for UWW on outreach or something like outreach. I wonder whether Occam would assume Foley is or is not still working for UWW, assuming that nobody has said otherwise.

Speaking of Occam ...

Based on 2 hours of pure deduction, I conclude that Foley did not keep his promise to address UWW corruption only because he woke up in bed next to a horse's severed head. :)

[edit: Insert joke here about horse's head found by horse's ass :)]

That's a good possibility too. I think everyone here will agree that it's a little odd that he would write something about the issue and say he would be addressing the point a lot more later. After that, he had stayed completely silent in spite of persistent prodding.

Tim is extremely opinionated and has a very high sense of his own self worth to journalism and wrestling.

That fact he has not written says more about him than any piece would about the situation.

What is it about "social justice warriors" that you find distasteful?

It sounds like you're saying "hey, this guy complains about trivial stuff like equal rights but he still hasn't followed up on his promise to expose the importance stuff like corruption in a sport's international governing body."

No its more like the fact that he's a self absorbed idiot. Every perceived injustice in the world he takes a slight. I would say that most, if not all, posters here support equal rights. He just takes the time to tweet about "I hate Trump", "I hate republicans", "White people hate minorities here's how", etc ALL DAY LONG EVERYDAY. I am by no means a Republican but he simply goes overboard while he works for an extremely corrupt and unjust organization.

That is our problem with him.

Plus, some people are bothered by the fact they are being ignored

Foley is the guy who travels all over the world and everywhere he goes, no matter how big a hellhole, all he sees is America's faults.

To borrow the joke: he's the guy who went to the Soviet Union, bragged about how everything there is better than here, but took his own toilet paper.

iran is safer than iowa is all anyone needs to know.

I don't read Twitter much, so all I know about Foley's views are what I read in his column. Seems like a reasonable guy from what I've read there.

Maybe you could un-follow Foley on Twitter? I personally can't stand a certain cheeto-faced buffoon who shall remain nameless. I blocked said buffoon on FB, and even Twitter. He doesn't get a "follow" or a click on his pages from me, and I don't let the ignorant garbage he spews ruin my mood.

For those of you who dislike Foley, the more you put his name out there, the more free advertising he gets. There are times I forget about his column until I see the weekly thread here and think "Oh yeah, Foley... Let's see what he says this week."

seems similar to the ignore button here.

At least Willie & CP have senses of humor and don't try to posture as intellectual elitists.

Yeah. I like em too cuz I don't try to ack like a intulekchul eleetis either. Good thing they dumb it down cuz otherwise big words make me so maad!!

I like listening to both guys, but neither was ever gonna be a rocket scientist, lol

Ahh you're being an elitist prick now. Nice, you and Foley could be best friends. I believe both have masters. I don't like Willie either btw.

I suspect that many (American and other) wrestling fans don't like someone with critical political positions. There is a great amount of authoritarianism, parochialism, and nationalism (flag waving, jingoism and tribalism) in most sports communities, including and especially wrestling. Foley was likely or largely right when he quoted someone to the effect that the US wrestling fan base is composed greatly of "Jesus, guns, and Trump". If so, to me that is a toxic combination of religiousity, fear-based nonsense, and ignorance. Or worse.

The Flo guys are amusing but I wouldn't say they produce meaningful content. They're like the pop music of wrestling podcasts, maybe sometimes the TMZ of the genre.

To those bashing Foley for his views, criticizing your own country doesn't have to mean you hate it. No country or government is perfect and you can't improve it by ignoring its flaws.

It surprises me to hear that Foley thinks Iran is safer than Iowa, but if he's actually been to Iran then doesn't he have a better frame of reference than you and I?

No. I don't have to go to the sun to know it's hotter than here.

Reminded me of Conan's "Gun-toting NASCAR-driving Jesus"
character. Amazingly, I couldn't find a vid clip of it. I'll give you this one, though, since it seems pertinent to the subject of a few posts here. All in F*N, mind you . . .

Jefe speaks from pure logic. If we let go of a hammer on a planet that has a positive gravity, we need not see it fall to know that it has in fact fallen. :)

All kidding aside, the problem with Foley's quote is we don't have context.

If Foley meant that a person would be safer against obesity in Iran than in Iowa, he's probably right. Safer against being able to exercise freedom of speech? Right again. Safer against violent crime? Maybe. Iran is safer than USA as a whole, says the Internet, when it comes to violent crime.

Nevertheless, by virtue of Foley's insider status and trust in the industry, people [like me] are going to naturally think that he's a purple-pissing freedom hater. :)

I predict Foley will next say that North Korea is safer than Iran.

Wow, based on the highlighted portion of your post you think Iran is a safer place to exercise freedom of speech. That makes you WAY more off the grid than Foley. If you really believe that then I feel sorry for you.

Nope. Based on the highlighted portion, I think the opposite of what you say I think. So, we are in agreement (on freedom)! :) Happy birthday, USA!

LOL

"Purple-pissing freedom hater"?

As to our freedom of speech, let's remember that we regularly arrest protesters.

Oh and I've been to Iran 3 times. Any place where your mother has to wear a Hijab to be safe from the police or random men attacking her isn't safer than Iowa City, IA or State College, PA. Again, good try.

You've never once seen a protester get arrested for anything other than something illegal? You mean, like disturbing the peace? Letting blacks sit at the front? Interracial marriage?

If you need the law to tell you what's right and what's wrong then you are a morally weak person.

You've been to Iran three times? How did the Iranians treat you? Not too bad if you went back. Twice.

My masters is in Poly Sci with a focus on the Middle East, I took three trips in college. The people are very nice but you never truly felt safe or comfortable.
