"This is going to be a fascinating team to watch. Franklin is going to try to convince his program everything that went wrong last year can be contained to last year, and I’m not so sure it can be"

Reeks of Rutgers or Maryland wishful thinking to get in-roads with recruits. Could also be Hairball douchery/jealousy..lets just asswh^p all of them to be safe.

Fleck might have had some conversations with his former OC KC on what went wrong last year and said this.

I love comments like which ignore context. It does seem like anonymity gave them the courage to claim things went wrong without saying what exactly went wrong. Nobody was happy starting with five losses but.....
  • We finished with four straight wins
  • There was a new OC who was restricted in his personal interactions with players
  • Many teams played fast and loose with Covid restrictions but knowing how PSU operates, there was likely strict oversight to ensure compliance which minimized coaching effectiveness
  • There are no serious problems to contain which haven't disappeared with the lifting of Covid restrictions
The anonymous comments try to falsely imply the Penn State locker room was rife with discord and and incompetence. Looks like the guy was wrong.

It's Kirk Ferentz. :)

It could be Locksley.

Whatever. A litany of things went wrong last year. Journey Brown having to retire medically. Noah Cain being injured on the first series of the season. Micah Parsons sitting out to focus on the draft. Indiana getting a gift call in OT after a player scores when he isn't supposed to enabling the Hoosiers to get the ball back and score. Some might say that kind of game management is a recurring issue for Franklin, but I digress. Franklin's family had to stay away for health reasons, and it clearly had an impact on him. I don't know if Kirk Ciarrocca was a bad hire per se, but clearly, there were some issues on that side of the ball with an experienced QB at times looking lost and fumbling the ball frequently when hit and even getting benched for a time. I would guess there was some tension behind the scenes.

This year Franklin seems rejuvenated. It's clear he enjoys working with Yurcich. And he clearly likes this team. Penn State also appears to have hit a home run in the portal and in the JC ranks during the off-season based on the contributions we've seen so far. And PSU is winning quite a bit on the recruiting trail. I think things are really looking up right now. A lot of people had this team pegged at 1-2 or worse right now.

This team has a lot of potentially tough games ahead (6 of our future opponents, including Villanova, are unbeaten right now, and Ohio State is still Ohio State in the Big Ten until proven otherwise) but I like where things seem to be headed. I would not trade places with anyone in the country right now.

These were anonymous quotes from other (assistant?) coaches in the B1G published in Athlon’s college football preview. I could see it being from a Maryland, Rutgers, or possibly even an Ohio State coach.

I would agree with either Ferentz or Locksley. Lots of bad blood between Locksley and Franklin.

Your positivity will not play well on here with the haters and all knowing ones. 😉
