Wow, looks like Onward State shot themselves in the foot AGAIN

No its not actually

In an all-star game with a week's practice, to include learning new offensive formations (under center) and playing with WR's you have zero chemistry with? I think that's not too bad all things considered (noting the weather sucked).

Guess who was 3/7 for 9 yards in last year's game? I'm not saying TM doesn't have weaknesses and I have no idea if he'll ever get drafted let alone make an NFL roster, but the clickbait negging done by Onward State and others is horseshit.

This thread troubles me. If I feel someone is a B instead of an A, am I supposed to say A. Is that the kind of place we want. I sure don't .
In my world, diversity of opinion is a good thing, and all views are welcome. But, I guess that is just me.

Caveats-
I love Trace
The game means very little, the practices are the most important. And by all accounts Trace showed well in the practice

But-
He had the 7th highest QB Rating out of the 8 QBs who played. To say he was underwhelming in the game is reasonable. And to say Onward State cant say anything bad about Trace seems very strange to me. But to each their own

Man, that is a shame - is she TM's mom? Can't believe she has to step in and clean up the pile of sh*t created by Dumbsh*t State.

I'll ask again. Since tener wont answer, in the article about the game what did they say that was inaccurate and offensive.

I'm not saying they can't or shouldn't say anything bad - did you read the article? My point is they're not being honest with their headlines or intent - how on earth can AO be underwhelming when he only played a handful of plays? The agenda is clear; you can frame an honest evaluation of their performances without being intentionally negative.

Here are the underwhelming truths from the article:

Amani Oruwariye

Prior to kickoff, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted that he believed Oruwariye wouldn’t participate in Saturday’s game as a precaution following an apparent knee injury he suffered at Thursday’s practice. Although the former Penn State cornerback did play, he was only on the field for a handful of snaps and didn’t record any statistics.
However, Oruwariye’s draft stock shouldn’t take much of a hit. The defensive back is projected to be a high second round pick in April’s NFL draft and will likely receive an invite to the NFL scouting combine in late February.

Trace McSorley

Donning the North team’s bright orange jersey, McSorley joined seven other quarterbacks at the Senior Bowl, including Duke’s Daniel Jones and West Virginia’s Will Grier.

McSorley entered the game at the start of the second quarter for the North team. He lacked a bit of his usual polish on some throws, floating two would-be touchdown passes over the heads of two receivers. McSorley finished the day completing six of his 12 pass attempts for 55 yards.

The Ashburn, VA native wasn’t afraid to use his legs during Saturday’s game, either. He converted a huge third down in the red zone with a five-yard run in the second quarter, setting the North team up for a field goal.

Red zone offense may be a cause for concern for McSorley, though. He left a few plays inside the 20-yard line out on the field and once again fell victim to drops on key second and third down throws.

For starters, that AO was underwhelming. He recorded zero stats and played only a few plays. That makes me think he wasn't thrown at (which is great for a DB). So, once they laid that turd, the rest of what they say is suspect, and at best subjective to their intent - which is to bash PSU players.

Trace McSorley is a great leader and has a real "plus" ability to diagnose a defense. He will be a top notch offensive coordinator (and maybe head coach) some day. If he doesn't make an NFL roster it in no way diminishes his time at Penn State or his abilities. The rest is just noise.

It’s worse than that. Amani was on the sideline in street clothes the whole game. He had an injury scare earlier in week but I read he was fine.

Are you the Onward State journalist that INCORRECTLY (fake news) went back at Cabinda telling him he should know better as he was a journalism major on Twitter last night?

Then Cabinda corrected your INCORRECT statement letting you know he's an economics major? (Great journalistic research BTW)

One way or another, the tweet was deleted. Great journalism.

Edit: It wasn't deleted after all.

On a related note I see I got my Alumni Trustee Ballot in my mail.
Don't think I'm participating anymore. Just doesn't seem to do any good.
We have all kinds of nominees or nominee wanna bee's posting on this board with things they've done and are going to do and once they get elected its crickets for the most part.

Onward State is on it, Bromeo and Juliet!

"Local" sports writers are worth what they are paid. There is a reason the Corey Geiger's of the world are employed at these jobs. Like living on food stamps.

They aren't even local sportswriters. They are students.

Actually, his run on 3rd down would have set them up for an easy TD except some moron WR lined up incorrectly on 1st and goal from the one yard line.

On a related note, I just got a new BOA credit card sent to me but this new one doesn't the Penn State Alumni Association graphic/identification. I thought about asking them to send me a new one with that stuff, then decided against it.

Freedom of the press.....LOL God Bless America! I don't see much to be proud of in the MSM or from the local Lois Lame want to be(s). No competency test or certification required. One goal.....be first and get attention! Integrity or accuracy not required. You want to see freedom of the press at work? Watch how they comply with prosecutors, national or local. tainting jury pools and destroying the presumption of innocence, which was once as sacred as "freedom of the press." Lazy, often dishonest and motivated by a "look at me" ego. l don't trust CNN (nationwide) or PL(local) .

I was thinking the same thing

Well that's the headline. Fricking stupid I agree. You can't underwhelm when you basically dont play (injuries) which he points out in the article. But you also can't impress. (Edit: did he in fact play I don't remember even seeing him)

And what he said about a Trace, had a nice key scramble but missed a wide open receiver for a score.

Is that inaccurate?

I would think that our guys went in looking to show what they could do and from the one practice report did well, but in the game did not impress and marginally if only improved their stock in a meaningless all star game that can be forgotten with a good combine/pro day.

I dont understand Cabinda tweeting that their should be unwavering support from a student publication. The publication should provide criticisms and praise when warranted. His theory resides at 1600 PA Avenue. Everything isn't sunshine.

Also thank you for answering.

How anybody could find a way to be upset about anything in that article, which is essentially a recap, is beyond me. *TRIGGER WARNING* setting aside fairness, homerism, politics, etc., Trace probably isn't going to get drafted, and certainly not if he doesn't take advantage of opportunities like this. Will people continue to make excuses if Pro Day shows him to be quite average, at best, compared to others at his position? Wish him all the best in life, but his football days may be numbered

Remember when articles were all about facts and not opinions and it was called journalism? I do. This crap is a joke.

The ASPIRING journalist takes a shot at a kid that's busting his balls TRYING to make it into the NFL because of a few plays at the Senior Bowl and calls TM out on it. Another ASPIRING journalist is offended by and argues with a past teammate and CURRENT NFL player and gets burned.

Both Trace and the student that wrote the article are looking for a job out of college. One is putting in countless hours of bust ass training trying to get a LOOK from an NFL scout, while the other is eating Cheetos and 3 double Whoppers for dinner while writing his article. Ironic to say the least.

the chasm between Trace's work ethic and the work ethic of this Travis Clay wannabe is stunning

FWIW I read elsewhere (sorry, don't have the link) that Trace looked great in practice and at times was observed as being the best QB on the roster at the end of practice days. His arm strength was measured to be as good or better than the other QBs (a surprise to me given a certain reporter's comments early in his career that TM had a "popgun" arm) and he worked well leading the offense (leadership skills not a surprise). Regardless of how he performed during the actual game, it is my impression that Trace will get the looks he deserves before the NFL draft.

Yeah, but Trace always plays better than he really is.

This kid will probably be one of the guys on the phone/email who I send our HS game score and stats in to and they get printed wrong in the paper. Or he will call back to ask about it to write a short recap and eff up what I told him. It's so funny to read local sports writers do game recaps of HS games these days. They dont tell the game story as it goes, they make up stuff and then try to piece it in to the story as they go.
