Since you're using the Blue Route, the suggestions I gave for Centex would work for you as well:
some random thoughts (not listed in any particular order)
a) Tony Luke's at the airport
- it's located in Terminal F. I don't know what terminal you're landing at, and most people want to get their luggage and car and get away from an airport ASAP. But it's an option. Tony Luke's, when it was one location in South Philadelphia, had one of the top roast pork sandwiches and cheesesteaks. They now have branched out in to quite a few stores in the Philadelphia region. I've never eaten at the Terminal F location, so I can't give any type of opinion, but it could be an option
b) Pie In The Sky (Wayne, PA)
- you'd take 95 South to 476. Then you'd take 476 for 13 miles to Exit 13 (St. Davids/Villanova). On the exit ramp, stay in the left two lanes. At the light turn left on to Route 30. Take that for 1.8 miles to 108 Lancaster Avenue. It's pretty good, and you'd only go 3.6 miles out of your way, AND it's relatively simple to get to from 476
c) LaSpada's Original Steaks and Hoagies (Milmont Park, PA)
- you'd take 95 South to 476. Stay in the right lane (there are 2) on the exit onto 476. Take Exit 1 (MacDade Blvd). The offramp is a little winding, but eventually you'll see signs for MacDade Blvd East. Take MacDade Blvd for 0.6 miles to 1002 MacDade. I wouldn't go out of my way for LaSpada's, but it's pretty convenient, only costs you 1.2 miles, and is easy to get back to 476.
d) The Original Thunderbird (Broomall, PA)
- you'd take 95 South to 476. Then go on 476 North for 8.5 miles to Exit 9 (Broomall/Upper Darby). You'll get in the left lane on the offramp. At the light, you'll turn left onto Route 3 (also known as West Chester Pike). You'll take that for 0.7 miles to 2323 West Chester Pike. Another decent cheesesteak that's easy to get to -- 1.4 miles extra on your trip, and very easy to get back to 476.
e) Masterpiece Grill (Conshohocken, PA)
- you'd take 95 South to 476. Then go on 476 North for 16 miles. You'll take Exit 16A for Conshohocken/PA-23. You'd have to be in the left lane of the exit, as the right lane takes you toward Philadelphia. I believe shortly after the exit you have to turn right to stay on PA 23. You'll continue on this into Conshohocken. I believe that as you cross the bridge PA 23 becomes Fayette Street in Conshohocken. Anyway, you'll go 1.1 miles after the exit to get to 523 Fayette Street. There are several cheesesteak options in Conshohocken, but Masterpiece is good, and it involves the fewest turns.
There are lots of other options, but I've tried to keep things pretty simple for you after leaving the airport/for returning to 476.
Any questions, get back to me.
Delcos was delicious, thanks so much for the tips! Now onto crabs tonight!!!
By the way, some pretty nasty traffic early on 322, but no big deal...was a nice drive
I've never had a roast pork sandwich. Was going to try one last summer at Mama's in Bala--but their oven was broken that day so they didn't have any. I'm rarely in the Philly area anymore, but next time...Cheesesteak is good. But roasted pork with broccoli rabe is a very close contender to a succulent taste contender. I recommend trying the test. Nobody loses.
The closest "best of" spot is Dalessandro's (600 Wendover Street, Philadelphia) which is @ 5 miles away.
RE: comment on W&M: Daughter earned her masters there c. 2003. Remember we helped her move in to grad housing, and we returned to OH. A week later she gets an email to evacuate campus and come back in a week or so. Hurricane came up the coast and leveled many tall pines in Wbg. Major power outages. So she was back home OH) almost as fast as she left.
Interesting tidbit, she had an internship during her two years there as a researcher, just off campus. Several years later after she completed her PhD , she used her ex-boss as a reference for a job with Homeland Security. Her reference heard she was offered a job there, and by the next week she interviewed and was offered a job that had just opened up.. She loved WBG as a student, and was glad to move back with a nice career opportunity in hand. Still there. Kudos to W&M for the opp that started it all off.
Any suggestions near Ft Washington/KOP?
Do you mean Valley Forge/KOP? Once you get out there, you're a bit too far out for the sort of thing one travels to Philly for. I'd bet there are some good neighborhood pizza shops around Norristown or Wayne that'd give you a solid cheesesteak.Any suggestions near Ft Washington/KOP?
Dalessandro's is excellent. If you want to shorten the line, call ahead. They won't make it ahead of time but they'll move you up the line and make it right away on your arrival. Or if you want it ready for you on arrival, call Chubby's across the street. Locals argue their favorites, but Dale's wins for me on taste. The crowds at Dale's push me to call Chubby's more often..I'm somewhat hijacking this thread, as @Nittany Ned2 got the info he needed a few years ago.
Several folks in the thread, including myself, included Dalessandro's in their recommendations. I happened to go there last night -- first time in a year or more. As usual, it was absolutely packed. As I was picking up my order, someone was taking a selfie of sitting and eating a cheesesteak at the counter. Turns out they were from California, and wanted photographic evidence of eating at Dalessandro's. Our conversation was very brief -- I didn't learn if they were formerly from Philadelphia or not. However, they did say that Dalessandro's reputation was well known in California. That gave me a chuckle.
I'm staying in Fort Washington tonight, coming in from Lancaster area via the turnpike.that's a pretty wide area. can you get a little more specific?

Hmm, I'm hoping that someone from that area can pipe in. Most of the places I've frequented in that general area are in surrounding communities. The only 2 I can recall that are in Fort Washington are:
Luciani's Pizzeria
471 Pinetown Road
Fort Washington
Little Italy PIzza
416 S Bethlehem Pike
Fort Washington
Doesn't have to be specifically in Fort Washington, but probably within about 15-20 minutes of there
Not quite cheesesteaks but a relative (cousin or nephew?) of the family that operates the famous DiNic’s in Reading Terminal market opened a roast pork / beef shop in Montgomeryville, PA a year or so ago. Also called DiNic’s, it’s a worthy competitor to any of the local cheesesteak options. 15-20 minutes from ft Washington.Doesn't have to be specifically in Fort Washington, but probably within about 15-20 minutes of there or KOP on the way there...
So how was the cheesesteak? I'm especially interested to hear you thoughts on the quality of the sandwich relative to the following:I'm somewhat hijacking this thread, as @Nittany Ned2 got the info he needed a few years ago.

I'm especially interested to hear you thoughts on the quality of the sandwich relative to the following:
- it was good, but I didn't think it was as good as the original Dalessandros. The meat was good, and the cheese (provolone) was good. The fried onions were fine. The roll was very good. My complaint was that I got it to go, and when I got to the location where I ate the cheesesteak, I found that the quantity of sauce on it was insufficient.a) the original Dalessandros
- that's hard to say. The first year (or two) after the "Greek dude" purchased the place, the cheesesteaks were excellent. After that, they went downhillb) the Greek dude who bought out the D's and almost ran the place into the ground
- I was not pleased with the layout and the operation. They added narrow tables inside which take up a lot of space. It prevents folks waiting for pickups from sitting on the sill below the windows, and makes a storefront with not much space even more crowded. In addition, the flow was a mess, as there were folks that just took orders, and another that handled the call out of names/worked the cash register. (In the old days, with the original ownership, that process was more of a joint effort.) Plus the order takers were rather rude, IMHO. It's an institution, and their cheesesteaks are still good, so I'll be back.c) whomever owns the place now
