A little surprised Minnesota didn't enter a little higher

MSU has about 18 transfers on their 2 deep. Hard to build team chemistry and execution with so many new faces. An inspection of the Auburn depth chart reveals a similar result. Honestly, I'm not sure MSU could beat Auburn. Judicious use of the portal is a necessity....wondering at what point, when adversity hits, those transfers become mercenaries?
Clemson has looked weaker to me. They should have lost yesterday and were not that dominant against the horrible teams they played prior to that.Polls meaningless till playoff poll but why is Michigan 4th and not Clemson? Clemson beat a solid WFU on the road yesterday. It will work out in November but still…

100% agreeAnd scUM looked good barely beating an unranked (wildly over-rated) Maryland team??? WF was ranked going into the Clemson game. BTW, scUM was given help yet again by the corrupt b1g Officials - an un-reviewed horrendous call stopped a 51 yard Maryland drive, not scUM. Maryland had just taken the lead in the game 13-10, stopped scUM on 4 plays and was driving again (had moved the ball 51 yards to the scUM 41), when the Referines (on the field and in the booth) ended the drive with another typical joke call. They called an INT on a 1st Down play that was clearly simply an incompletion (the ball very clearly goes through the scUM defender's (Turner) hands and hits the ground as the FOX announcers and rules expert immediately identify - no review despite a very long period of time elapsing prior to the next snap on a possession change. Laughable to label Clemson's win shaky, but scUM's a "good win".... typical big-hugging myopia.
Exactly. Some of these programs are misusing the portal. Overuse if you will...The more transfers you have, at some point you realize that it's impossible to get all of them into the proper roles they are best suited for and you end up with literally someone else's team that you are trying to prepare, without any cohesive chemistry. I prefer the approach of the top teams and Penn State is following that template.MSU has about 18 transfers on their 2 deep. Hard to build team chemistry and execution with so many new faces. Iowa is not a complete team...I'd be shocked if Michigan lost that game.100% agree
clemson went on the road and played a top 25 team
Michigan hasn’t left the out house yet
finally this upcoming Saturday at Iowa.
Franklin has been a master of judicious use of the portal. Lot's of personality issues etc. when you bring a transfer in to play in front of a young man you recruited and may feel that he's "paid his dues." We sometimes forget how young these players are and dismiss how skilled coaches must be in dealing with them.Exactly. Some of these programs are misusing the portal. I was too until I looked at their schedule. The 4 teams they've played have a combined 4 wins and that doesn't include the FCS Western Illinois juggernaut! They host Purdue this week so that will tell us more. All of that said, I do think Minnesota is a tad better than we are based on what I've seen of them. They are fundamentally sound and play at the same level consistently. I'm actually glad we have them as the white out - assuming it would not matter anyway against Ohio State - PSU will need to bring its A game to beat Minnesota.https://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/polls/coaches-poll/

But it’s not meaningless….why is Kentucky ranked higher than we are? It’s because they beat a ranked Florida team, so that win means more than any of our wins even though Florida is no longer ranked. If UK keeps winning (even if it’s as ugly as all of their wins have been) they will stay in the top 10 based on that one win. If they lose next week, Ole Miss will move up into the top 10 due to their win over a ranked UK team and UK will likely stay in the top 15 due to that win over Florida. It’s all about perception and the rankings play a big part in that perception.Polls meaningless till playoff poll but why is Michigan 4th and not Clemson? They hit the jackpot last year but it's hard to replicate that. It was like they hit the lotto decent and then thought the lottery was a good investment for those winnings.MSU has about 18 transfers on their 2 deep. Agree on Minnesota. MSU is still 33rd and ND got 3 votes.https://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/polls/coaches-poll/

While this is a nice sentiment, Kentucky is ranked that high because they started high in the preseason polls and have not lost. The preseason polls are mostly based on last years results. While the polls have diminished in importance, they are not menaingless when it comes to perception at the end of the year. But it’s not meaningless….why is Kentucky ranked higher than we are? The only poll that matters is the one issued by the committee. The solution is simple—keep winning and everything will take care of itself. While this is a nice sentiment, Kentucky is ranked that high because they started high in the preseason polls and have not lost. But the one issued by the commission is influenced greatly by the other polls. That’s the problem. The only poll that matters is the one issued by the committee. The solution is simple—keep winning and everything will take care of itself.
They really need to wait several weeks before the first polls come out, not like 5 minutes after the national championship. But the one issued by the commission is influenced greatly by the other polls. That’s the problem.
No doubt. pitt's schedule is embarrassing. The only top 20 team they will have played is Tennessee and they lost that game. pitt should not be ranked in the top 30 based on their putrid schedule. They are a fraud program feasting on cupcake schedules.Just before I forget, I think Pitt’s signature win this year will be a loss to Tennessee.
