Nickal beats Cutch in overtime on a veryyyyyyyyy questionable call with about 6 seconds left off of Cutch's shot.

The other wrestlers I spoke too said that they will wrestle best of three matches.

Whoever we have at that weight will be a force come nationals after watching that match.

How one does in intra-squad matches/eliminations doesn't always reflect how the wrestler will do in competition with wrestlers from other schools. Also, I see this as more encouraging about Cutch than I do discouraging about Bo.

I would think if your going to be the next 184 champ that you would beat a round of 12 guy from your room not in overtime. Also not trying until the third, bull or disrespectful, both are bad.

Heard the exact same thing from a very, very reliable source. Also, can we stop freaking selling Cutch short? If he's healthy all year we could be talking about a top 4 guy at 184 last year. It'll be a damn shame if PSU can't get him in the lineup somewhere

Didn't someone recently post results from a wrestle off from Okie State, from a couple of years ago, where a lot of their top guys got beat?

When I saw Mike posting, I thought he was going to give us all an update on Daton Fix.

What day in Nov is Fix announcing? TIA

Any other interesting results? The weights above or below 184? I assume Stoudt is above and Shakur is 177? If Nickal secures 184 who wrestles who at the other 2 weights? Thanks.

It's not selling him short, it's valuing bonus points. Cutch could finish 4th hypothetically but Nickal could outscore him placing 6th with some techs and pins. And that's assuming Matt stays healthy which he can't seem to do.

Very curious how it's going at 197 so far too, although maybe not much going on with Stoudt locked in until
Cassar cleared? Or perhaps whoever loses out at other weight bumps up to challenge.

Mr. T already knows the fix decision. It's not nearly as guarded as the RBY decision was.

That's not what I'm saying. 1) We'd have been best with Bo at 174 and Cutch at 184, everybody knows that. 2) The shock that Cutch is making this a competition and not just getting mauled is ridiculous, the guy can really go. It's not Bo wrestling poorly, it's Bo facing a really good wrestler.

Bingo. Mouse is 3-1 against the returning national runner-up, with 2 blowout wins and the other 2 matches being close decisions when dealing with injury, yet a lot of people think he's just another body.

10-4

You can catch these takes and more on the first ever BSD Matcast dropping next week, by the way. *Runs away before Tom scolds me*

I remember a couple of years ago when Bo told Cutch that he (Cutch) was better than Gabe Dean. Truthfully, the way Cutch was looking before the injuries last year, that was not a preposterous assessment. Does everyone forget the VT match?

Dean didn't exactly destroy Dudley in the finals last year (final score 5-3), and Cutch tends to fare well against Dudley. However, Dean did have Nate Brown's number, and Brown has always had Cutch's number. It's all about the match-up.

Dean is the prize. Who matches up better? Cutch or Bo?

I'm not suggesting the answer should weigh into any decision regarding the lineup, just adding a little flavor to the discussion about hypotheticals.

Mike is attending a sleep over at Coach Smith's house this weekend. We should get a picture with Mikey and Coach and some Penn State attire and maybe some insider Okie St news.
I heard Coach Smith is hiding all sharp objects before he breaks the Fix news to Mike.

It isn't just who matches up best with Dean. You have to get to Dean first.

The fact the match was a close intense battle should not surprise anybody. McCutcheon is not just thick this year, but also ripped. He is also pretty good and of course there is the familiarity factor.

Not wanting to sell anybody short, but one kid has wrestled in the NCAA finals and the other one has struggled to stay healthy and while some quality wins also head scratching losses.

To me the choice is very obvious, and for Cutch to win the spot I would expect Cutch to have to win with some seperation.

McCutcheon's year last year has to be taken with a big grain of salt.

Looking like Rasheed or Morelli will be the man at 74 and Bo/Matt winner at 84 definitely. I don't think Mac going down is going to end particularly well but that's just personal opinion. He managed to wrestle 95 at States so he can at least try going up, but college game and Cassar will be tough. So just looks like a less than great situation for him right now. But he's a tough kid and we knew this was going to happen - someone was going to sit. I love Matt and he's a high AA contender at 84 definitely if he starts. If he's at another weight he is the type of kid that could make it work.

I don't know how 'Cutch would fare at 174. I think it might work if the cut doesn't take too much out of him. However, I think "Cutch would have some real problems at 197 at the college level. His lack of height/length would be a real disadvantage IMO.

Cutch's height is almost a liability at 184 it would be terrible at 197. Assuming he doesn't win at184 I hope he can make 174 w/o adverse affects.

Isn't Cutch 5'10" the same height or at least very close to the height of Kyle Snyder?

I disagree with that. I saw the wrestleoff in person. Myself along with a couple other gentlemen were in Lorenzo and were pleased to see that they had an open practice and we were able to watch. Gulibon was the only other one to wrestle off yesterday. He won his match. If Cutch gets down to 174, i do not see Rasheed or anyone else at that weight in the room beating him. He looked like a completely different wrestler yesterday. I don't believe Cael will not have Cutch in the lineup somewhere even if it meant moving Bo to 197 for the team title race. My guess is that if he loses the next wrestle off, we will see him at 174 by the Penn Open.

I'm not so much worried about the possibility of Cutch getting down, it's the staying down and competing at an elite level for a whole season. I could see him at 84 and Bo at 97 as a possibility. It's a long way to March. Regardless it's a heck of a 'problem' to have.

I agree, especially if it is true as someone posted here that Cutch's lowest weight is 174.0. If that is correct then he can only wrestle at 174 if he weighs in at exactly 174.0.

Posters keep saying that Cutch certified at 174 with a low weight of 174.0. Saying that if he weights 173.9 he can't wrestle. That doesn't make sense to me?

Why not? The NCAA rule is that you can't be under 5% body fat -- hence the minimum weight. If that happens to equal a weight class, so be it.
