Looking at the 2016 and 2017 bowl breakdown and if there was not a playoff system or the BCS (like in the old days), I was wondering with conference tie-ins what the five major bowls would have looked like.
How do you think the other major bowl positions would have been filled out?
2016
ORANGE: #2 Clemson vs. Oklahoma (ACC vs. Big 8) The old SWC champion would have gone to the Cotton Bowl but the Big 8 went to the Orange Bowl.
ROSE: Washington vs Penn State (Pac 12 vs Big 10)
SUGAR: #1 Alabama vs Ohio State (SEC vs. highest rated At-large)
FIESTA: Probably USC as for regional interest vs ?
COTTON: ? vs ?
Left: Colorado, Florida State, Michigan, Western Michigan
2017
ORANGE: #1 Clemson vs. Oklahoma (ACC vs. Big 8)
ROSE: USC vs Ohio State (Pac 12 vs Big 10) - they will meet in the Cotton Bowl
SUGAR: Georgia vs. ? (SEC champion vs. ?)
FIESTA: Washington most likely for regional interest vs. ?
COTTON: ? vs ?
Left: Alabama, Auburn, Penn State, UCF, Wisconsin
