2017 NCAAs Session 2 Thread

Hall (Iowa St) and Schram (Stanford) in a consolation. Whoever loses is done. Would not have predicted that either would be in this position on Thursday at Nationals at the start of the season.

... and is cutting as many of their high-priced on-air personalities as they can.
Everyone is shedding subscribers because people are just simply getting rid of cable altogether. Also, They're doing so to keep profit margins at normal levels, not to keep themselves in the back. ESPN has found that their top personalities aren't really worth that much and are pretty much replaceable.

Quarterfinals tomorrow for PSU:

149: Zain vs. Alex Kocer (S. Dakota St)

157: Nolf vs. Byant Clagon (Rider)

165: Joseph vs. #6 seed Daniel Lewis (Mizzou)

174: Mark Hall vs. #4 seed Zach Epperly

184: Nickal vs. #7 seed Timothy Dudley (Nebraska)

197: Cutch vs. #4 seed Jared Haught (VT)

285: Nevills vs. #4 seed Jacob Kasper

Consolation matches tomorrow for PSU:

141: Gulibon vs. Timmy Box (Northern Colorado)

I like Zain's fall potential against Kocer tomorrow. Clagon could be stingy for Nolf (as far as avoiding tech/pin).

Dropping off a few comments from Cael before I write up the recap. I'll have some more comments from Sanderson in that along with a couple of the wrestlers

On the 15-1 day...
"I think overall guys are wrestling well. They're having a good time. Big day tomorrow, obviously. Friday is always. Then Saturday just gets bigger, then every match just gets bigger."

On the consistent bonus production from Retherford, Nolf and Nickal...
"All three of them wrestled great. All three of them scored bonus points in the six matches they wrestled, but the big matches are tomorrow. These points are very small compared to the points that are awarded the next two days."

On Gulibon being able to bounce back in Friday's consolations...
"I think he's fine. We'd like to see him rebound obviously and wrestle great tomorrow. Kolodzik is a tough kid, but Jimmy wrestled fine. He just was beat in a couple positions but that's the difference when you're wrestling a tough opponent. You've got to win those scrambles and those tough positions, finish your shots, but we need him to battle back tomorrow. That'll help us a lot."

Cutch's match is really important (avoid Studebaker in R of 12)

Joseph's match is really important (avoid Valencia/Massa loser in consis).

Bottom line...WE NEED TO RELAX AND GO OUT AND SCORE POINTS...OTHERS WILL BE TIGHT....

So there are some tough matches on the slate tomorrow for PSU

Zain - should be fine

Nolf - should be fine, but Clagon is pretty slick when healthy and into wrestling

Joseph - this could be a real battle. Lewis is a great rider, as I recall, so Cenzo needs to be the one that wins the battle on their feet

Hall - Epperly is tough. This one has me stumped

Nickal - Dudley -- a pair of finalists from last year. Nickal should win, but as always, he has to avoid the costly mistakes

Cutch - Haught is a tough match. Could see this going either way

Nevills - Kasper -- we get to see if the #4 seed was warranted for Kasper. Both guys are deceptive, and dangerous. Tough match

Gulibon - Box -- pretty sure I've never seen Box wrestle. Jimmy looked good even losing tonight. If his head is on right, and he goes after it, I would favor Jimmy.

They're showing more Live Wrestling now than they did during Primetime when the top seeds were wrestling??? During prime time, they showed us interviews we could have listened to while watching live wrestling.....showed us the practice / warm-up room, etc.... Their coverage sucks - PSU is leading the tournament and I think they've showed about 30 seconds of live wrestling involving a PSU wrestler.

No disrespect, but showing Nolf/Retherford/Nickal/Hall blowouts aren't exactly the most riveting for a non-wrestling fan..
