2017 NCAAs Session 2 Thread

Myles Martin will eventually have to beat both Greer from Edinboro & Dechow, plus a few more matches in between, just to make AA.

Morrissey has rocks in his shoes. He's as slow-twiched as it gets for a wrestler with a winning record.

but who do we want between Sorenosn-Jordan tomorrow
I'd say Jordan. Jordan has ZERO chance of beating Zain. While Zain's last match with Sorensen (sick or not) at least makes me pause. Say Sorensen has a slim 10% shot vs 0% for Jordan.

Crutchmer will be on mat 2

Either Crutch woke up and decided to wrestle, or Morrissey is not very good. Crutchmer is making this look easy. Thankfully I was watching on ESPN and ESPN3, as ESPN switched in the middle of the match to have an interview with Kevin Dresser.

Crutchmer up 14-4, and has 1:01 in RT, so it's 15-4, with 35 sec left. Interestingly, Morrissey gets active in the last minute, and Crutchmer doesn't seem too interested in going for a TF. So it's a 15-4 win for Crutchmer.

So there are some tough matches on the slate tomorrow for PSU

Zain - should be fine

Nolf - should be fine, but Clagon is pretty slick when healthy and into wrestling

Joseph - this could be a real battle. Lewis is a great rider, as I recall, so Cenzo needs to be the one that wins the battle on their feet

Hall - Epperly is tough. This one has me stumped

Nickal - Dudley -- a pair of finalists from last year. Nickal should win, but as always, he has to avoid the costly mistakes

Cutch - Haught is a tough match. Could see this going either way

Nevills - Kasper -- we get to see if the #4 seed was warranted for Kasper. Both guys are deceptive, and dangerous. Tough match

Gulibon - Box -- pretty sure I've never seen Box wrestle. Jimmy looked good even losing tonight. If his head is on right, and he goes after it, I would favor Jimmy.

I really appreciate all of the summaries and other info you provide. Thanks!

The reason we need a little help, is because Ok st max is about 40 points higher than ours right now. They'll run into losses in the consy's, but if anybody can finish off any of them tomorrow, it's a win-win for PSU.

Moore vs Weigel tomorrow will help also. The reason you want Moore, is because Ok St has that max advantage, while we actually have a 4 point max advantage right now over Ohio St.

Yes, Snyder will bonus to the end, but after that they have no bonus guarantee, other than possibly once more for nato.

Mark Hall had a first period pin vs Morrissey at Big Tens in about the same amount of time it takes to blink your eyes three or four times.

Mark's plan tomorrow: Win the match from neutral, and if Epperly takes top, stay off your back. Take him down and unless something presents itself, let him up and take him down again.

A look at who our team competitors have tomorrow.

Ok. St.

125 Quarter, Piccininni vs. #1 seed Thomas Gilman
133 Quarter, Kaid Brock vs. Bryan Lantry (Buffalo)
141 Quarter, Dean Heil vs. #8 seed Jaydin Eierman (Mizzou)
149 Consolation R2: Anthony Collica vs. Joshua Maruca (ASU)
157 Quarter, JoJo Smith vs. #4 seed Tyler Berger (Nebraska)
165 Quarter, Chandler Rogers vs. #1 seed Isaiah Martinez (Illini)
174 Consolation R2: Kyle Crutchmer vs. Ethan Ramos (UNC)
184 Quarter, Nolan Boyd vs. Drew Foster (No. Iowa)
197 Quarter, Preston Weigel vs. #3 seed Kollin Moore (Ohio St)
285 Consolation R2: Austin Schafer will face the winner of the Doug Vollaro (Lehigh) vs. Cory Gilliland-Daniel (UNC) match

Piccininni and Rogers have very little chance. Weigel and JoJo will be underdogs. Eierman is inconsistent, so I'm not sure what Heil will face. Boyd and Brock should have no trouble.

Ohio St.
125 Consolation R2: Joe Rodriguez vs. Tim Lambert (Nebraska)
133 Quarter, NaTo vs. #8 seed Zane Richards (Illini)
141 Consolation R2: Luke Pletcher vs. Topher Carton (Iowa)
149 Quarter, Micah Jordan vs. #4 seed Brandon Sorensen (Iowa)
157 - nobody
165 - nobody (Burcher is out)
174 Quarter, BoJo vs. Alex Meyer (Iowa)
184 Consolation R2: Myles Martin vs. Joe Heyob (U Penn)
197 Quarter, Kollin Moore vs. #6 seed Preston Weigel
285 Quarter, Kyle Snyder vs. Michael Kroells (Minny)

that's a lot of Ohio St. - Iowa matchups. They have 5 in the quarters, and Snyder, Moore, BoJo, and NaTo will be favored. Micah - Sorensen should be a good match. Pletcher and MyMar should be favored in Consolation, while Rodriguez will be an underdog. Ohio State could be in very good position after Session 3

Iowa
125 Quarters, Gilman vs. #8 seed Piccininni (Ok. St.)
133 Quarters, Cory Clark vs #5 seed Stevan Micic (Mich)
141 Consolations R2: Topher Carton vs. Luke Pletcher (Ohio St)
149 Quarters, Sorensen vs. #4 seed Micah Jordan (Ohio St)
157 Quarters, Kemer vs. #7 seed Dylan Palacio (Cornell)
165 Consolations R2: Joseph Gunther vs. Branson Ashworth (Wyoming)
174 Quarters, Alex Meyer vs. #3 seed Bo Jordan (Ohio St)
184 Quarters, Sammy Brooks vs. Emory Parker (Illini)
197 Consolations R2: Cash Wilcke vs. Josh Marchok (Stanford)
285 - nobody

Gilman and Brooks will be strong favorites. Kemer is a favorite, but Palacio can be tough. Clark and Sorensen have matches that could go either way. Meyer will be an underdog.

It should be an interesting Session 3

I'm a big PSU Wrestling fan, (and a former PSU Swimmer) but not the most knowledgeable when it comes to understanding tournament scoring - trying to understand how we stand after day one. I know we lead by points, but that can be misleading, and we lost our 125. Are we in a good position going into day two? Thanks

damn, digger, I would have posted my look at the competitors about 30 minutes ago, but my delayed dinner was ready.

Didn't mean to steal your thunder..... Was just helping out.

Eat up !!! Big day tomorrow !!!! You need your strength.

we're in very good shape, especially considering that we are without Suriano. Only 1 loss today, and bonus points in most wins.

tomorrow is when it gets interesting. The competition gets tougher, and the advancement points get higher if you win.

see the post I did that looked at our competitors. They aren't going anywhere, though they do have some matches against each other, which would help us if they split.

too soon to say any team is in the driving seat.

lol, I'm happy for all the help I get. I'm just banging my head against the wall for starting a time consuming process, stopping it to eat, then finishing it up after eating only to find that you posted about the same info 4 minutes before I did.

all good.

Right now tOSU concerns me more then OSU. Cowboys have dug themselves into a bit of hole and should have a difficult quarterfinal round. Probably want Iowa to win those head to head match ups with the buckeyes. Hawks are having a good tournament so far however they are going to drop a few guys tomorrow morning and I don't think they have the firepower to catch PSU.

tOSU: I like that Jordan and Jordan face Iowa guys with tanks in the early session. If Meyer can avoid falling behind by 3-4 early as he's prone to do he just might catch Jordan by the end.

Pokes: Rogers/IMar should be big fireworks. Edge to Berger and big edge to Moore. If John's boys come out snoozing like they did in R2 they will need help the rest of the way.

Anyone know why the PSU wrestlers don't do interviews after matches? Flo has a bunch of cool interviews posted and the only PSU guy was Hall and he was only on for 30 seconds before Cunningham whisked him away.

Does Cael not allow it?
