It sounds like I need to listen to that broadcast. They are kind of funny and cringy at the same time.
I nominate Bushwood. He could carry on about stalling rules, citing the exact section from the rule book and complain how the officials never call it correctly. In the past we have made fun of student announcers (especially the Nebraska "fist to the back" pair). But, when a university has the premier wrestling program in the country it is disgraceful to have announcers who were as ill-prepared as those working the Maryland dual.
The best entertainment would be, as has been done in the past, to have Jeff Byers radio feed along with the video. If there is a desire to give student announcers an opportunity to gain experience, then they should be properly prepared (and yes that will take effort). Additionally, it would be good to have a knowledgable wrestler or fan nearby for clarifications.
Mesenbrink exposes his head 10x per match. A knee to the head is 90% bad luck, 10% avoidable with a change in techniqueI feel like Kasak in his attacks does get his head in there. I wouldn't say leading but darn close. I don't want him to be less aggressive, but these hits aren't dirty wrestling by the opponent. There was some face stuff going on but really not related to the hit.
They get cauliflower ears because they don't wear the head gear in practice nor in out-of-season competitions.why don't they wear head gear with some kind of protection or cover over the forehead?they cover the ears yet they all get cauliflower ear!
Even the best head gear doesn't always address the problem. Somebody with a history of concussions is susceptible to reoccurring symptoms from something as simple as a good hard tie-up or headsnap.
not real smart but I am guessing that gear rubbing on ears isn't helping!back in the day it was a choice I never wore it and never got the cauli ear! They get cauliflower ears because they don't wear the head gear in practice nor in out-of-season competitions.
However, they neglected to tell us who led the Maryland team in escapes. The two kids on Sunday were better than anything I heard last year.
I guess I’m out of the loop. Was is truly a concussion worry or did the cut open up again? Secondly, does he have a history of concussions?Even the best head gear doesn't always address the problem. Yes and no (not before this weekend) He didn't have concussion symptoms against Teemer I don't think.I guess I’m out of the loop. Was is truly a concussion worry or did the cut open up again? Secondly, does he have a history of concussions?
They weren't running the clock and they left the mat, so concussion. Something happened because it wasn't long after leaving the mat and heading back to locker room they decided to default.I guess I’m out of the loop. FWIW, my initial reaction to his stoppages over the last 3 matches was these were head injuries, concussion, whatever you want to call it. In real time, I thought his reaction to each head shot was consistent with what you would expect from that type of injury, even in the case of the initial laceration.Yes and no (not before this weekend) He didn't have concussion symptoms against Teemer I don't think.
Hard to believe with the conservative policy these days.FWIW, my initial reaction to his stoppages over the last 3 matches was these were head injuries, concussion, whatever you want to call it. If I was forced to bet on this, my money would say undiagnosed head injury during the Teemer match. Aggravated against UM and pushed completely over the edge against MD.
The science/diagnosis isn't perfect. It's not impossible that he had a grade 0/1 concussion and passed all the rudimentary tests administered matside during the first two matches. This isn't a pregnant/not pregnant situation.Hard to believe with the conservative policy these days.
He took a shot to the temple area and is in concussion protocolI would assume he got hit on the stiches and ripped them open, hurt like hell, and probably saw some stars. The idea of the cut needing to heal so it doesn't keep breaking open is a top priority... I did say assume
Do they get restart choice on blood time? I thought they didn’t and that was the stoppage reasons for Iowa and Michigan.Pretty sure the ref gave the concussion protocol signal (fist to head) during both the Michigan and Maryland matches. I didn’t see it vs Teemer, but all 3 stoppages (Iowa included) also didn’t give the opponent the choice of position on the restart that injury time would have dictated.
Iowa could have been blood time, but I’m fairly sure it was concussion time vs Michigan.Do they get restart choice on blood time? I thought they didn’t and that was the stoppage reasons for Iowa and Michigan.
But I didn’t even know the fist to head hand motion for concussion. Sounds like the dreaded fist to back!
