Friends, tomorrow starts the entire pinnacle of our sport on non-Olympic years.
Schedule of wrestlers by day:
Wrestling starts at 3:00AM CT (which is 4:00ET for ya'll in PA, right?) each day. First sessions will end between 9:00/10:00, Finals beginning at 12:30PM CT the first day, and 11:30AM (12:30PM ET) the rest of the days.
While not optimal timing, it could be a hell of a lot worse. I will try to PBP as much as I can, but for some reason, my school doesn't realize that this week is the World Championships, and I have to start showing up at 8:00AM to clean the office/gym/etc. However, that shouldn't stop me from watching/PBPing except for certain occasions (IE: System-Wide Mass, they frown upon yelling expletives and confirming falls during communion for some odd reason.)

We have a heck of a team out in France. Tons of storylines to buy into: Can Helen win again? Will other younger stars on the Women's team have a breakout year? The mix of veterans/youngins on the Greco team could spell similar success. Freestyle brings what might be our strongest team in quite a while. Obviously as PSU fans, Manville and Retherford spark interest. Iowans have Gilman. Ohio State has Snyder and Stieber. Jammen (depending on the day and what narrative he's pushing) has Burroughs and Green. There's college ties, but also, USA ties.

I don't know, man. I'm excited. This, Fargo, and NCAA's are the 3 biggest events of the year in my world. Thought I'd start the thread for this, since there isn't an 'official' one, yet.

The biggest event of the year is Ohio State-Michigan in football

I have direct tv and i checked this morning into the Olympic channel 624. Apparently to get this channel its a special package. the other kicker is it is tape delayed and Im not sure how they will handle the different mats.

so for now Im thinking Im just going to order it through track for $10 and be done with it.

I went with track. I can act like I'm lesson-planning while my school-issued iPad plays the matches. Computer has the dashboard. It's actually a pretty slick setup. The kids busted me during Akron last spring, but I only have to worry about the Ms. Perfect Teacher across the hall, this week.

Thanks! If I accomplish anything today (aside from fixing a door that doesn't lock), it will be getting the dvr set. Very welcome to be talking about real wrestling.

That's 3:00 am for the parts of Pennsylvania that are in the Midwest.
I wish your posts were this comical more often.

Draws came out. Manville didn't end up too shabby. Provisor has a tough go of it. Other two have repechage hopes.

Is the $10 charge by Track Wrestling a one-time fee that covers the entire World Championships from start to finish (Aug. 21-26) or does it only cover one day (and hence needs to be paid each day you watch)? I assume (hope) it is a one-time charge, but I couldn't find a clear answer to this. Thanks.

Found day one on my cable , requires additional channel purchase. Umm , no !!!! Fudge NzbC

JB is on the PA in the arena. Honestly, I would love to listen to him on BTN productions vs Johnson/Gibbons.

Never know what will happen but on paper Mason's first few opponents are definitely beatable. He got a solid draw !!

Staebler from Germany is an interesting Greco wrestler. Nickel and dimes ya with great pressure and hand-fighting.

After another passivity, Manville gets to an underhook, ducks opposite side to a body lock. Sweden kinda half-ass looks for a head-pinch out of it, but Manville never exposes and takes Sweden to his back. They gave 2 for correct throw to Sweden and 2 for Manville. I don't know about that. Sweden had no throw if Mason doesn't change levels and attack the body, there. No turn on top.
Match ends 4-2 for Manville. Good bout.

Smith has Czech Republic in his opening bout.
Smith gets a step out from an underhook and a nice drag off a 2on1 to go up 3-0.

Passivity on CZE, 4-0 at the break. Chandler wearing a Storm shirt instead of USA gear lol. I love that guy. Momir also in the corner.

Guys exchange locks before Smith gets a step-out, 5-0. CZE looks sag headlock, but Smith slips it. Back to feet with :30 left. No score.
Smith wins 5-0 in dominating fashion. USA 2-0 to start the morning!

Provisor on deck on 4, but Chunayev-Staebler is on deck on 1. Might be split-screen time.

Provisor has Ukraine on 4, but now it's on deck again? Displays area all wonky. StruggleFest on day 1.

1-1 each on a passivity. Provisor keeps pushing away to work from space. Surprised he hasn't been dinged a second time to be honest.

2-2, passivity against Provisor, but step out for Provisor. Leads on criteria, as he takes a headbutt... Maybe he shouldn't lead with his head down.

Provisor gives up a go behind to rear-standing to a 4pt throw, with less than :10 left. Ukraine wins 6-2.

Longer break in the USA action until Hancock and Manville come up virtually simultaneously.
