2017 World Championships Thread

Smith up against Chile, now. They go out of bounds, but ref says it was a push. Passivity warning against Smith, as he's hanging in an overhook (huge pet peeve of mine). Step out is 1 for Chile. Passivity makes it 2-0 Chile, as we head to the break.

Smith not getting to much of anything against this tall Chilean. Another step out makes it 3-0. Passivity Chile, and it's 3-1 with ~:45 left. Robby half attempts a high dive. That's how it ends... 3-1 Chile. Damn.

Coleman has Serbia. Serbia gets to double unders and Coleman pushes off the chin with his palm/wrist, caution +2 for SRB. Must be a point of emphasis on chins/necks this year. 2-0 SRB. Coleman firing lots of attacks to body, but none are sticking. Wrist fighting, as Coleman comes from left field with a "headlock attempt" that looks more like a right hook. Ref gets in his grill about it because SRB is being a crybaby. Period ends 2-0 SRB.

Coleman attacks to body, but SRB catches it into double unders, Coleman pummels out of one. Passivity against Coleman? Makes no ****ing sense. 3-0 SRB. Gotta start taking some chances. This ref has it out for Ellis. Bunch of attacks, passivity against SRB makes it 3-1, but that is how it ends. Coleman loses.

another disappointing morning for greco. it always seemed we were on the clock and never could get through our opponents defense. maybe Im off base but those two items working together created a lot of passivities and low scoring loses.

There's no clock in Greco, but yeah, we got warned a lot more. Seems like it comes from our desire to be in space. If you're constantly pushing away to start fresh, you're gonna get dinged. Constant contact is pushed a lot more in Greco. When we did get space, we couldn't convert high dives or attacks to the body to any locks.

A bit late...this came out last week from the NLWC...

coleman looked to be the most active of the US guys and even he was getting dinged. if its as you say is that something that is sport specific and we didnt adapt yet or something that maybe is being pushed at this tournament and we failed to make adjustments? we didnt lose to gold medal guys, so it would appear we need to making training changes.

Rough morning, only was able to catch Coleman and Smith's bouts. Coleman was definitely the aggressor. Smith couldn't work his way through defense.

Here's to hoping they get brought back on the repechage!

So far, though, its been a reminder of what Kamal Bey did was so special and rare for American Greco.

Thanks for all the updates, much appreciated! Looking forward to FS later this week

Does the track stream suck for anyone else? Or is this karma for me watching Greco on the school's dime?

I gotta say, I respect Lindland for this. Being a Greco coach in a country that doesn't necessarily respect it, he tells it like it is, borderline accusing his athletes of being too comfortable and lacking fight.

On the same token, he's right about refs not hitting guys with fleeing the hold and calling passivity the way they said they would. It's supposed to be about "hooking" and "active wrestling", but they didn't necessarily do that in my opinion.

Also, Robby Smith came with the profanity, and that's pretty greathttp://www.trackwrestling.com/tw/PortalPlayer.jsp?TIM=1503438006422&twSessionId=trimqdvjeqdrgtd&videoId=593966009

Another great video from one of the Greco coaches. This shit actually inspired me. We need to see this through... This meaning training guys to hook, lock, and throw. When we can perfect that style and score points, we don't need to worry about passivities and cautions. We need to invest time, energy, and money into Greco.

Very interesting and engaging interview, but casts a rather dim view of Greco-Roman wrestling on the international level.

Maroulis with a 3rd straight tech, this one over the Dominican Republic. Guaranteed to wrestle for a medal.

I don't have encyclopedic knowledge of women's wrestling but Helen Maroulis has the best "feel" of any woman wrestler I've seen. As aware of her opponent's body as her own.

I believe the finals/medal matches are to start at 1 PM ET. Does anyone know the order of bouts, or an estimate as to when Maroulis's match might start? Do the bronze matches go before the finals matches? Or do they go weight-by-weight, with the bronze matches followed by the finals match?

Based on track wrestling's upcoming matches, they go by weight. I'm not positive, but I think that the matches will start sooner than 1 pm ET.
Edit: I pm ET it is.

The HOF is showing on big screen, and they say it starts at 1 ET. Traditionally, they wrestle both bronze and then the gold of one weight, in order. Then move to next weight.

One more question. I've signed up for Track's $9.99 plan. When I logged in, I got a message to be sure that "Flash" is enabled. I'm fairly low tech. How does one enable Flash?

Do both bronzes go at the same time; or one after the other? I'll find out soon enough, but only have limited time to watch and want to maximize the time.

They go bronze, bronze, gold, next weight.
Yesterday, they did it by weight, I'm pretty sure. Day before, I think they went out of order. So not sure on that one.
