2018 B1G Championship Session 4 Thread

Well, Snyder and Coon were out of bounds on that last "takedown" that won the match for Snyder. They blew that call. Take that call away and maybe Coon wins the match, reducing OSU's point total.
I didn't think so... when they were all but out his right foot was still in (regardless if it was out and came back in). From a cylinder perspective I thought the call was correct.

Ok, tOSU won by 16.5 according to the club website not 13.5 or even 15.5. I'm back to they probably would of won anyway and I'm not changing my mind again no matter how hard you homer Penn State fans try!
We also need to subtract the points Martin, Moore, and Snyder would've lost if Downey were eligible.

(PS, can't believe nobody mentioned his absence yet.)

I think that was a frame by frame replay. That close.

And part of why I think Snyder was out is that the tweeted still frame showed Snyder out. (I expanded the pic, he's out.) You'd think if he were in, Ohio State and/or Flo would've tweeted that frame instead.

Snyder was out an able to re-establish his foot in-bounds, not sure why the refs did not waive the takedown off.

Could this be one of those "his feet were not touching in bounds but they were still inside the imaginary cylinder" things?

Since the call was 2, it took irrefutable evidence to reverse the call. It’s that close, I doubt they called it irrefutable...especially given they were reviewing their own call.

Lots of questionable statements in here:
It's not clear at all that Rasheed "has the talent to win it all". He didn't look great against Moore and another big powerful guy like Haight could pose real problems.

And questioning whether the team really wants to win is downright silly.

I have a thoughts about Rasheed vs Moore. You can take these as excuses if you want, but I offer them as possible reasons.

Moore was wrestling his 3rd match, Rasheed was wrestling his 4th. Significant, IMO, because Moore is cutting a lot of weight, wrestled only 2 matches Saturday (uninspired 5-3 decision over Beazley), then had all day Sunday to hydrate and be fresh for the finals.

I'd like to see how things might be different if they meet Friday in the quarters or semis at NCAAs. That is often when the weight cutters have to pay their dues.

Rasheed was just beat, Moore was better on the day. What has me concerned about future matches was Rasheed really couldn't stop Moore from powering through for a takedown. Maybe it was a fatigue issue (though I doubt that, Rasheed had as much time to cool down as Moore did), but Moore could just simply be a bad matchup.

I'm not disputing that Moore was the better wrestler Sunday. My point is that a cut down Moore Sat night was not the same wrestler as the hydrated 207 pound Moore Sunday eve.

If Moore and Rasheed somehow meet in the finals at NCAAs, I'd have to pick Moore. However, if they meet sometime Friday it might be a different story.

In general, I think a 3 day tourney works in our favor. NaTo, McKenna, Campbell, BoJo and Moore are all cutting a lot of weight, IMO, and they will be wrestling matches 3 and 4 in a cut down state Friday. Nato vs ??? in the semis. McKenna and Moore vs a much stronger field in the quarters and semis, BoJo will be wrestling the 3rd or 4th seed in the quarters ... lets see how that goes.

I'm not disappointed with our team's performance this weekend. The B1G is a VERY tough tournament. Sure we could have done better at times (that's almost always the case, excepting last year's NCAA finals!), but it was great experience for our guys.

I would just like to add one comment, about Lee. Lee's a great talent, but he's a true FR at a very tough weight. I've seen some folks saying they have high hopes of top 4, even a title. As good as Lee is, I don't think that's realistic this year, and I hate to see that level of expectation on him. I see 141 as the B1G's weakest weight, and there is so much tough competition out of conference. If Lee makes the podium I'll be very happy (not shocked, but happy). Lee's going to be a very good one, but his weight is brutal and he's just a true FR.

McKenna's transfer to OSU, instead of to us, has been a bit of a game changer. Obviously huge pickup for OSU.
If we had him, Lee could have had the redshirt year that likely turns him from a very good FR to a real title contender.
McKenna then could have moved up to 149 next year to challenge Berge and Verk.
Oh well.

The weight is brutal and hats off to McKenna, but Meredith, Eierman, Yianni, Jack and Heil are all as good or better.

I'm still in Lee's corner. I don't think he is going to be top4 but I certainly think he could. He only needs one really good upset to get to the semi's... He's learning... started to protect his right leg better since his tourney loss.

Getting to the semi’s, while possible, still only guarantees top-6. The guys mentioned will be waiting in wrestle-backs too. AA of any number would be an accomplishment as a TRFR, with the talent at 141.

McKenna was already working out at OSU while he was making visits.

When it comes to Ryan, I wouldn't be surprised if he recruited Joey while he was still at Stanford. The swiftness of Campbell's transfer immediately after nationals also makes me suspicious.

With M Jordan moving up to 157 OSU was looking at 2 holes in their line-up for 2017/18 ... 141/149 and 165. Awfully convenient how the solutions just showed up on his doorstep.

I think McKenna visiting PSU and other schools was just a ruse.

Roar... Sorry, I know this is probably a major FAQ, but I'd rather feel stupid and ask, than be stupid and not know. Around what timeframe will tickets go on sale for the 2019 B1G Tournament at Minnesota?

Reading through some of what I missed during the tournament, and found this...sorry not to answer till now.

Big Ten Tournament ticket sales usually go on sale late-December, early January. The host school is responsible, and the date can be a week or two different school-to-school, or year-to-year.
