2019 Recruiting Class Thread

With Wade back, I think we stand at 75 scholarship players with the 20 early entries, signees and commits. I believe as many as 7 can count toward the 18 class (we have that amount more than covered), but you have to go back further than I care to go to validate how many of each class counted toward the previous. That means this class could be as high as 32, if two more scholarships open up. That 32 includes transfers, unless that rule changed in the last two years (and I don't recall that it did). Bottom line, we can still get to 85 if we want. But I don't see 10 kids on our radar that are good enough. Hopefully there are some we haven't heard about and/or more grad transfer targets.

This might need it's own thread. Feel free to move it or start one.

Interesting that one guy had Whigan as a 5 star, #10...

Arkansas guy included Wallace, and another one did as well.

Easy to see some bias by the typical suspect teams, ND, UM, ...

BYU guy must be too far west to include any PSU players....

Syracuse guy hates PSU for beating up his team over the years....

Isaac got on one...

Bama guy barely had room to put all the Bama recruits on a top 32!!!

IIRC B1G limits crutin class size to at most 28. Of course if your meat chicken, the rules don't apply...

I don’t believe this is accurate. I think there is some confusion with how we interpret this. I’m almost certain the B1G rule on over signing is based on the 85 limit, not the 25 limit. I think the B1G allows 87 or 88 to be signed, as long as you are at 85 by the start of fall practice (or maybe it’s the first game, I forget). The B1G would be stupid to change the rules allowing early entries to count toward the previous class.

Again, I might be wrong here.

That doesn't count early entries who apply to a previous class.

I was this close to adding the following to my comment:

I'm sure Art will correct me if I'm wrong.

I should have stuck with my gut instinct.

You are correct, I added 3 to the wrong limit. Should be to the 85 total number, not the 25 annual number. I stand corrected.

Don't worry about numbers, no one is ever right on here about them anyway. Just enjoy who we get, we are a far ways from having 43 scholarship players (and still had winning seasons)

Conceptually you are both correct, though the limit is imposed on incoming "signees" i.e. the 25/28 which creates the overage. The Big Ten office allows 28 without any questions. After that, a school has some 'splainin to do.

As far as when a school has to be at 85, the answer is always. Rule is that a school can have no more than 85 on scholarship at any given point in time. Recruits who haven't enrolled don't count against that limit. Thus, enforcement, if you want to call it that, focuses on the incoming group.

From our vantage point, focusing on the 25 has become virtually impossible since we don't know how many early enrollees count against the previous class (and in order to do that accurately, you have to follow it for years back). I just look at the number to get to 85, but if Franklin winds up bringing in 30-32 you can be sure someone at PSU, and ultimately he, is going to get a talking to. Optics are big in the assholedom they call academia.

As I understood it, Asoboro had a BB game on Sat, so he was going to make the trip Sun/Mon. Is that correct?

I think that was OT Dawand Jones. I think Wisdom A's host family had a "scheduling conflict", so they couldn't make the trip. Sounds like the host family are UNC fans!lol

Not quite the smile on his face that he had when Saban visited a few days ago...lol...oh well. The kid is a solid route runner and blocker

There should be a separate thread for those wanting to project the numbers of PSU roster and how many scholarships can be offered. Since nobody is ever correct, the closest one to the correct number can be the only one to post about it in here.

Apparently loving his OV, was still at PSU yesterday...

Isn't Dawand Jones the recruit who visited Ohio State last weekend and committed to them, and an Ohio State football recruiting website published his commitment, and then quickly took down the commitment story because Dawand Jones wasn't ready to go public with his commitment? Maybe he had a change of mind, but I remember seeing the published article.

Ohio State has sounded confident recently in their ability to land Dawand Jones and Enokk Vimahi on the offensive line this cycle. If that is true, maybe that pushes Doug Nester to PSU?
