2019 Recruiting Class Thread

Isn't Dawand Jones the recruit who visited Ohio State last weekend and committed to them, and an Ohio State football recruiting website published his commitment, and then quickly took down the commitment story because Dawand Jones wasn't ready to go public with his commitment? Maybe he had a change of mind, but I remember seeing the published article.

Ohio State has sounded confident recently in their ability to land Dawand Jones and Enokk Vimahi on the offensive line this cycle. If that is true, maybe that pushes Doug Nester to PSU?

That did happen, but other OSU writers have reported that Jones is NOT a silent verbal to OSU, just a strong lean. We'll see what happens. I'd love to land Nick Cross and Nester. But I'm not sweating the rest of these guys. Franklin will fill out the spots with these late guys or transfers in the spring.

It'd be a fun little game you guys can play at guessing though.

Who is guessing? The information is available. Only minor details are left to figure out. You just don't like it and for some reason have decided to pee on this part of the discussion. But it is related to 2019 recruiting and belongs here whether you like it or not.

Get your point, but I'd rather see him get the high school players he wants now and see how they develop, rater than take a number of grad transfers that are not likely to see the field in the year they are on the roster. The up side of just taking grad transfers for a year is that they will be gone and their scholarships can be used on the talent CJF is going after for 2020.

This is exactly what needs to be weighed. Is it better to take a shot at an under the radar kid who might hold a scholarship for four years? Or accept a couple of grad transfers who provide solid depth for a year or two (in some cases) then fill those spots with my highly rated talent in future classes? You don't want to give up on 2019 in favor of 2022. But you certainly want to maintain some consistency as well. I figure CJF is way more organized than I'll ever be so I'll sit back and watch what he does.

You can't sign enough 2019 kids to fill the roster hole we have. It will be both.

Yep, I was tempted to make mention of the fact that between EE to the NFL and the portal PSU may again be looking at a full class in 2020 even if CJF uses as many of the current openings as possible on high school players, but I didn't want to get scolded for talking too much about scholarship openings going forward....

;):);)

I think the issue many have is that some of the posts presume to second guess the roster management of the staff when they have less than 1% of the knowledge of the comings and goings, approaching injury retirement, transfers, etc. How many posts did I read of how the staff is taking too many this class and they are going to have to process kids! And where are we now?

At least Franklin is going into the year knowing he has a full class to fill.

Is this picture at a place in florida?

I could be wrong, but it appears like Sorrells had his OV over the weekend, and then Franklin and Co. had their in home visit with him Monday night in Florida. Seider posted a picture of that Ham jersey and said there were PSU fans everywhere. Good strategy to sway him to PSU imo. Have to see if they've done enough to overcome South Carolina's lead.

I hadn’t thought about the huge upside of taking graduate transfers for a year to fill in gaps of areas of need, but still keeping future ships for the next recruiting class. Obviously CJF has and I think we’ll see movement on transfers after signing day. I’m curious to see if we get to 25 and how many grad transfers we pursue or take. I saw the WR from VT with an official visit to PSU in April and the UVA OL showing interest, but I dont think they are positions of need. We are loaded with talent at WR and are good on the interior of the Oline. An OT or Dlinemen would be a position of need. It’s curious to me that the VT WR, who is a starter, would transfer to a team with way more talent at WR. The portal kind of extends signing day to include transfers. Things are getting pretty interesting.

Yep, it is interesting that CJF is exploring taking the VT grad transfer. Lots of WR talent on the roster, but all of it very young, with JJ moving on. So adding some maturity may be a good thing. But apparently CJF recruited the kid out of high school. And he has 70 catches for over 800 yards, and 2 years to play. Maybe he just wants to go to a program that goes to better bowls. Since VT lost to pitt by 30 this past season, maybe he wants to beat pitt by 30 instead of losing to pitt by 30. Hey, that's a 60 point swing!!! ;);)

Kumah is a big kid and a good player. He would be a nice one year addition.

So, are we really still in it for Jared Harrison-Hunte or is this just drama leading up to signing day. I loved his video the first time I saw it after his junior year. He has great athleticism. Would love to still get him and Sorrells too!

All the recent CBs point to Miami. He took his 2nd official (coaching change) there recently. We certainly don’t put all our eggs in one basket though. Darkwa, Sorrels and Asabora are all being pursued as well.

I'm going to say we're not really in on JHH and moved on to prioritize DL targets of Joseph Darkwa (announces Friday), Jaquaze Sorrells, and Wisdom Asaboro for the 2019 class. If had to prioritize those 3 it would be 1. Sorrells 2. Darkwa 3. Asaboro

Don't be surprised if JHH commits to Miami this weekend

And it seems that CJF wants at least 2 more D-linemen.

Do you think it’s a bust if we only get 1 of those 3?

Not at all.

Honestly if I had to take a gut feeling guess, we are most likely to only get one of those in Darkwa. (Unless, we can continue to make a serious push with Sorrells)

As of right now, I think Sorrells goes to S. Carolina and Asaboro goes to N. Carolina.
