The Buckeyes always look good coming off the bus.

If the Buckeyes figure how to slot everybody the Hawks could be right back where they've been for the last decade. Wrestling hard for third.

I hear you, but that ranges from very to insanely optimistic. Remember, Shak was still over 6 weeks away from returning. Zahid would've faced Edsell (if not for the failed skin check).

2x champ with an 85% bonus rate, vs. a FR backup wrestling up a weight ... that matchup was not a regular decision. If Edsell would've somehow held Zahid to a MD -- conceivable but not something you'd want to rely on -- then Cassar's decision would've won the dual. Otherwise, we still lose. (As-is with the forfeit, Cassar needed to win by TF or pin.)

The match we'd really like to have back, with the active roster at the time, was 149. Verk lost by RT to Maruca (who finished the year 10-14 and DNQ for nationals). Maruca was awarded a takedown on a challenge with 2 sec left in the period; Verk would've had an escape if continuation were allowed. Verk also wasted a lot of time getting stalemated on reversal attempts, instead of simply escaping.

You read it wrong or I wrote it wrong. I think Zahid probably wins by major, doubtful TF. We only lost the dual by 1. Berge of course then seals it for sure. The main point being the injury bug bit us very hard. For as great as Iowa's year was our lineup had to get hammered just to lose two squeakers

Willie is unquestionably more tied in than I, and Echemendia isn’t very tall, but still. I get guys blow up in the offseason but I think it’s more likely he’s 157 than 149. They’re also gonna have to work out how Kharchla, Smith, Romero, Rocky fits into 3 spots.

Ryan said in his recent 3 part interview he is going at 141.

I agree it is doubtful Zahid would TF Edsell. He would almost certainly win by fall, which is El Jefe's.

That was half of my point.

The other half is beating a sub-.500 wrestler at 149 makes the 184 forfeit irrelevant. Of those 2 matches, winning 149 was a lot more realistic than an undersized freshman backup avoiding TF/pin against a 2x national champ/bonus machine.

Just to clarify: If Zahid won by TF, then Arizona State would've won on criteria #3, most match points -- which they won with no scoring at 184.

One of the advantages of the modern info spectrum--with Coach/Insider at one end, and Fans on the Internet on the other, is the full range of latitude available. Specifically, my offseason Fan Scoff gets to include not only whether dude makes weight & toes the line, but also whether his gas tank after so doing is sufficient enough to be reasonably competitive.

If Echemendia:
1. Makes weight
2. Toes the line at a sanctioned event
3. Performs with a tank like Jordan Decatur did this past year, and gets gassed in the 3rd or 2nd, or 1st vs the Top Tier, then who "wins" the Mess Board Debate?

Tom Ryan, Decatur & his parents all won the debate about whether he could make 133 and toe the line. Fine. Congrats, I guess.

If Echemendia toes the line at 141, burns a year of eligibility "getting experience" and:
1. Goes something like 14-10 / wins only 58% of his bouts
2. Gets regularly dominated by Top10 opponents
3. Fails to qualify for Nationals

My weight cut scoff will be waving its Mess Board victory flag.

As well you should.

Though in fairness, those could be his results regardless of cut. As good as he looks on feet, he has only 1 year of folk experience and will be wrestling at Deadlift Out of Bottom U. Every opponent this year should take top. Lesser opponents should slow the pace in the first period, to neutralize his neutral skills.

Just another thing to like about Cael's program -- he gets great results without drastic cuts. Some cuts, but more emphasis on competing at a sustainable weight.

Is that you Lemon Pie?

What's up, Malone!

Yeah, it's really an under-represented demographic in wrestling fandom circles: the appreciator of the extremely fit male form, of which I am unabashedly included. I also appreciate that society has moved along enough to nowadays navigate such appreciation without undertones of derision or negativity or whatnot.

May the pics of all our own shirtless torsos aspire to one day be in the same fit ballpark as Cassar & Echemendia!

What's going on... Jtothemfp? I'm doing well. Quietly enjoying razzing Lemon and knowing that a physique like that takes years of growing and sculpting. It's only fitting to admire the physique, like Gorilla Hulks that is molded with countless hours in the gym toiling when no one else cares. It's the results in real terms on the mat that electrify eyes... none more than Lemon. May he worship with the rest of us. Take care and be safe always... my friend.

Thought he was penciled in at Rutgers. On a realistic level, he doesn't beat Brooks or Beard.

Wish Weiler the best and hope he stays healthy. Bono is doing to do great work with him. I agree he won't beat either of our young guys.

Brooks beat him this year at the dual. His dad said he was totally out of shape that match also, he was on pace for a major IIRC.

Beard actually beat him 20-8 in his greyshirting year. I think he was injured that year and backed up Jakobsen but scoring 20 on Weiler (who finished R12 the year before at 197) right out of high school is amazing. Beard is going to terrorize people next year.

Echemendia looks huge. I always thought the same of Bo Jordan. No idea how he held 74.

On the day of WNO weigh ins, Echemendia was to take SAT's. He was the last one to show up to weigh in and i was like 'god, he's huge and there's no way he's gonna make weight'. He walked in right off the street and said he was good to weigh in. And he made it (65kg) without a workout.

He looks even bigger now. But i asked him recently and he said 141 was the plan.

That being said, i think it all depends on Sammy, who got really big last offseason. It could be this

D'Emilio/Kinner-Echemendia-Sasso vs. Echemendia-Sasso-Kinner

they got an under the radar recruit out of Utah (that I loved) last year at 49/57 but he's not on the roster so i assume he's on a mormon mission. as such, their 57 options (sans Sasso) are very limited.

Yes, Isaac Wilcox will be on his mormon mission, year 2 of 2, for the 2020-1 season. He should be on campus for the 2021-2 season, unless plans have changed.

Remember too, with Paddy Gallagher coming in 2021-2, he may need to go 157 to see the lineup, depending on what Kharchla does (65 vs 74 over time). If Echemendia and Sasso can hold 41 and 49, then the 2021-2 line up from 41 to 74 could be Ech-Sasso-Gallagher-Kharchla-Romero.
If Sasso goes up to 57, then he and Paddy will 2 years overlap.

For anyone following along, Ohio State isn't going anywhere. They'll be near the top for the near future, and longer assuming the recruiting success continues.

As an aside, they are one of the few schools that already have their 2020-2021 roster up on their website.
