2021 NCAAs

SIAP but any idea who Beard gets in blood rounds? I imagine it's someone tough (the top bracket was loaded) and seeing how he looked against Woodley, not feeling it at all.

3rd session stats

Our wrestlers had some tough breaks and of course being the 3rd round, tougher competition.

Beard fresh is about as good on his feet as any of them, and might beat ayone, and certainly has improved his conditioning, but he still has the worst stamina of any of the good 197ers, and its not close.
Just not enough stamina for a grueling tournament.
He should lift, lift, and run, run, run, run.
Doggone.
Beard was by far the biggest disappointment of the day for me. Not only that he lost, but the way he lost.

And obviously, I'm referring to on-the-mat wrestling, not the injuries to Berge and Howard.

Better than Caffey or Schultz though....

For sure, there is no easy path to AA ... I feel that knee is a thing for Michael (and we'll never know) and between it being a half season and him missing time, he was not going to be tournament ready this year.

Let's hope Beard swigs down a 2L bottle of mountain dew before his next match. When his tank is empty it is bone dry, and he completely shuts down.

I gave an 'Oh shit, here we go again' 30 seconds into that match. On a full tank he probably majors. Almost all of his loses the past two years have been due to an empty tank.

After this morning I was confident in top 4, then..

Does Beard have a weight cutting/mgmt issue? Second days of tournaments appear to be low energy wrestling for him.

Talk about Steveson going MMA, but if he doesn‘t, I don’t see how he can be anything But a strong favorite next year.
I try to be a realist.
Lol where is this mma bs come from? Gable himself has said he’s going to the WWE. It’ll be interesting if he comes back next year. Hope he does. Hell hope he comes back for two more years. He should be a three timer.

Can someone post the upcoming match details for the remaining PSU wrestlers? At work tonight with limited access to the Internets. ;)

Thank you kind sir!

There's a reason this is by far the best board on Rivals. Good Lord, the sh&t show elsewhere is beyond belief. We're down two wrestlers due to injuries, and they're worried. Blaming refs every chance they get. Lmao. If we didn't have injuries, we may have actually given them a run for their money.

I had to work today and missed all the action. Thanks to everyone for the scores and updates. I was able to relive it by reading through these threads.
Just remember how far everyone else thought we were from contention at the beginning of the season and how tenuous even having the tournament was.
We won't win the team championship, but some things are certain:
  1. It'll be a war next season.
  2. Iowa isn't as strong as they thought.
  3. This is the #1 NCAA wrestling board.

I mentioned this last night during his match in round 2. He was losing his legs and sucking wind and said he welcomed the breather when his opponent took injury time. Todays match didnt surprise me at all. :(

Whats surprising is that he had all day to recover, and tank was still empty.
His first match yesterday was relatively easy; his 2nd was tougher, but didnt go into OT.
Run, run, run, run.

PSU looked good early on in Session 3A, but an injury to Berge and then Howard getting pinned (and possibly injured) took some of the shine off of the session. PSU then went 2-2 in Session 3B, so not an outstanding morning/afternoon, but a lot to be proud of.

Please use this for all pre-session, in-session, and post-session discussions. If you're replying to another post, please use the Quote function.

When:
Friday, March 19, 8 pm EDT

Where:
St. Louis, MO

TV:
ESPN

Video Stream:
EPSN3 -- they'll have coverage on all the mats (I'm not sure how many are being used in the session). You can watch multiple mats simultaneously on your computer, or watch only 1 mat -- you decide.

Audio Stream:
Jeff Byers's radio PBP will be streamed. The pre-session part of the show starts at 7:40 pm EDT, with the wrestling coverage at 8:00 pm EDT. You can access the audio stream at:

PBP:
I'll provide PBP for all of the matches involving PSU wrestlers, unless two of them are wrestling at the same time, where I'll provide full coverage on the one that starts first, and pick up with the other one when the 1st match is completed.

Team Scoring:
The best place, IMHO, to get updated team scoring is the Penn State Wrestling Club's web site. You can access the virtual team scoring at:

Mat Assignments:
I post upcoming PSU mat assignments as I learn of them. Others do as well; we try to help each other out during NCAAs. The best sources I have found for mat assignments in past Nationals were TrackWrestling (go to their dashboard) or the Twitter account of Penn State Wresting (@pennstateWREST).

Let's keep it going, PSU

Oklahoma State having a great tournament.
