2022 Recruiting Class Thread

Quote from Abdul Carter:

“They’ve been telling me lately that they only have a certain amount of spots," Carter said. "They’ve been saying that they have about 23 or 24 spots available, so I knew it was getting tight,..."

Anyone with any new insight into how many scholarships will actually be available for this class??

With the decommitment of 5 Star Jaheim Singletary today, Ohio State falls to #2 in the 2022 Rivals recruiting rankings behind The Penn State University!!!!! Ken Talley was right, we would have the #1 class even though we have 9 more recruits than Ohio State and 5 more than Notre Dame. Enjoy it!

Don't think that's what Talley had in mind when he made that claim :)

Assuming we add 1-2 more, we're probably going to top out at about 275-278 points. Will land us with a final spot in the 7-10 range, IMO.

Probably not counting the JUCOs that number makes sense. 2 or 3 more. I believe they'd take Wesolak or Fearbry back. Roye and Barham would still be takes in my opinion, as well as 1 more receiver. If they hit on all of them then you just figure it out. My guess is they take 26 total because we aren't winning them all as much as I want to.

10 PA guys of the 24 commits announced so far -- this is the best year for in-state recruiting since?

Do we have to go back to the mid-Paterno days?

Pribula, Shelton, Talley, Ivey and Flowers all announced early in the cycle -- a big boost in getting this class off to a a great start.

Assuming there are no major decommitments, this class will finish in the Top 10. This is the kind of class that needs to become the norm again if we want to be annual contenders in the B1G. Yes, we've arguably been the #2 program but it's a distant #2 to O$U.

Yep.

We didn't have any top-10 classes leading up to the 2016 team, if folks remember. So it CAN be done -- winning big without stacking top-10 classes on top of one another. But the surest path to being a CFP contender is to consistently land top-10 classes. A class ranked in the #10 ballpark (which is where our 2022 class will land) will guarantee us the #2 class in the Big Ten in most years. And when you pile several of those types of classes atop one another, that's the recipe for a title-contending roster.

To overtake OSU is a different conversation entirely. But consistently getting top-10 classes should enable us to beat OSU once every ~3 years.

Keep this whole class together and fill in last few spots with some key targets and I don’t care what final ranking of class is.

Anyone know when Wagner plans to commit?

And were Roye and/or Wagner at the Lash bash?

They seem like the only logical OL potential commits for this class in the near term. If they would both commit elsewhere Trautwein might initiate additional offers in the Fall if there are others that he feels good about......

Strange that his "official" offer was only dated yesterday.

Only given to him at the Lash Bash?
Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think August 1st is the first day schools can "officially" issue written scholarship offers to high school seniors. This does not mean verbal offers which of course can go out much sooner.

Every 3 years would be wonderful considering we've lost 8 of the last 9 games. I think recruiting would be much better if we hadn't let those two games slip away that resulted in 1 point losses. That would be your every 3 years scenario.

I would estimate well over 60% of the Pitt fans slammed the kid and called him every name in the book A after committing to PSU. Now these same fans are welcoming him back with open arms. What a bunch of hypocrites!

People seem to forget the absolute nasty threats Pitt fans/supporters sent to Chuck Fusina's mom prior to the 1977 game.

Classless scum I tell you they are!

Don't know about the "official" part of it, but a school can't put anything in writing wrt financial aid before August 1. The letter is about as binding as ExLax.

Once Shelton gets added back to PA on this list, PSU will have commitments from 3 of the top 4 and 7 of the top 13. ‘IF’ Fearbry recommits, it would be 8 of the top 13.

So nice to see, if only to keep the board masochists at bay for a day.

Some of the three stars will gain another star and maybe one of the fours gets one also. That said this is a great class with some great kids.Like the way they are handling themselves

will the QB from Ohio State now be taken off their 2022 recruit list?

Yes. It will elevate PSU to #1 (if it hasn't already been updated) and will drop OSU a spot or two. I believe OSU and Alabama each have 14 commits now, to PSU's 24.

What's crazy is that the two top recruiting classes in history are now Alabama's and OSU's 2021 classes.

Yeah, I saw that on another site. Will OSU overtake Alabama's average / recruit of 95.00 - which is just mind-boggling. Hell, many schools don't even get one recruit rated at 95 and their AVERAGE is there. Unreal. It said OSU's class was already the 2nd best in history with the addition of that JT kid from Washington - with both eclipsing the Urban Meyer's previous mark of 94.59 / per recruit in 2017

They just updated the rankings. Ewers is the #1 overall recruit for 2021 now. No surprise there.

Alabama: 327.76 points (94.99 average)
Ohio State: 321.68 points (94.98 average)

Each with seven 5* kids in their 2021 class. The two top classes of the 21st Century to date.

Insane.

Fearbry over DDS?
On3 has definitely staked out some very unorthodox rankings. My guess is they want to come out of the gate "different" enough from the others. And they're doing that.

I'm not in a position to say whether their rankings are more or less accurate than others, but they're definitely cutting against conventional wisdom in many of their rankings.
