Football 2023 NFL Combine results: Penn State Football Edition

Mustipher didn't have a great day

PJ Mustipher didn't show much in the way of explosiveness. Is he a late round choice?

If he can get back to 2021 form, he could end up being a steal. With these results though, he's probably looking at late 3rd to 6th round at the earliest. The combine isn't an end all be all, but he's going to need somebody to believe that he will improve further and fall in love with his '21 tape.

Yeah, this is true. It only takes one coaching staff to believe in him. This is a loaded DL/Edge class though. Going to be tough for him to overcome that IMO but long time between now and the draft for him to impress.

Perfect example of a guy who was never an athletic freak and was going to have to put some good tape on film. Compared to the top rated DT in this draft (Jalen Carter), he's got similar tackle totals, but lacks the disruption/havoc stats (Carter has 18.5 TFL in 35 games; PJ has 10.5 in 49).

Probably some of this is a result of PJ being a 1T and drawing more doubles where as Carter was 3/4/5T DT who had a NT drawing doubles to open him up. PJ put out some really good numbers with Tangelo as his fellow DT and I think they would swap them between the 1 and 3.

So, I'm a tad higher than you (I foresee drafted vs potentially UDFA), but would not be shocked if he falls to late 5th, early 6th.

he may get drafted due to his brother's success in the NFL and PJ being a good team player. Last year he did not seem as powerful as he was before the injury.

I thought 5-6 before today. I'm that crazy person that watches the combine. It wasn't a good day for him at all. He appeared to be the least athletic interior DL. It wasn't just the 40 time. It was a really rough day for him.

Wish him the best and would love to be wrong but he's currently a UDFA or a guy a coach believes in enough to take late 6th or in the 7th. Just a really tough day for him. I dont have a positive spin on this one other than he still has a pro day.

Based on his skillset, PJ is and always has been a tweener. They rarely put up good testing numbers. He is probably carrying too much bad weight which he needed to play the 1 tech in college. He would probably be best served to lose the bad weight to maximize quickness allowing him to play multiple positions. Right now, he probably won't make the cut at any specific position.

It's a good thing the NFL network sent a woman to question JP Senior as JP Jr was about to run his 2nd 40, as it seemed to keep JP Sr from errupting....

He could end up with a 3-4 team, lose some weight and be a run stopping DE. If he continues to recover his quickness he may surprise some people in a camp next Fall

He could have come back. Didn't need to leave early. Just saying. Hell we have a coach on out team who can tell everyone all about leaving too early.

We got stop ramble nonsense about guys should come back. Him coming back doesn't make him a better athlete or more athletic. Everyone should go when they went to be done with college football and move on. Drafted or not.

Joey Porter, draft "loser" ...because of his broad jump? Can someone help me understand why the broad jump result is indicative of CB success and why 10' 9" vs 11'1" is disastrous?

Hype. Excitement. Controversy. No more. No less.

Nobody could name a Terp CB. Now they got 2 with 1st-round performances? Naw.

I was more impressed with his 40 time. I didn’t think he’d run in 4.4s. With his length that’s incredible. I don’t know if to many corners running 4.4s that are 6’-2”. Anyone who labels him as a loser over a bad broad jump is insane.

Other guys simply had a better day. Ringo, Gonzalez, etc all blew up. Porter was just solid. He's still a first round pick--probably top 12-15 but yesterday helped other guys which hurt him.
