Football GAMEDAY THREAD: Penn State versus Oregon in 2024 B1G Championship

I just want to say this. I don't see how you can blame Allar on this loss. His last TD was fabulous.

The D was pretty horrid for most of the game. The refs did us no favors. And some mistakes by Franklin.

I don't really like blaming anyone on the last play. Everybody saw something that they didn't like on it. The Oregon CB made the play and it sealed the game.

The defense got gashed, but they were weak exactly where we suspected all year. Credit due to Oregon, they are good. We gashed them too. We just turned the ball over twice while they did not.

6th year QB vs 3rd year QB probably the difference in the game.

Makes no sense. Gabriel is the king of short passes. Being indoors does not suddenly make them more formidable than outdoors.
No wind, no weather, artificial turf, dry surface….yeah, doesn’t make them more formidable.

OK, what odds you give me on if they play a good team indoors?

Since you say impossible for them to lose then I want some good odds and I will bet you.

If we score and don't convert the 2 we need time
Not kicking the XP earlier killed us
Huh? It was one score. You worry about getting the TD, not missing the 2pt. Leaving time was irrelevant in that situation

Don't worry, this guy is clueless as much as Franklin.

I mean they move the ball back 8 yards and this guy thinks it was too hard for someone to understand that you don't run a play after the ball was moved back. You challenge the damn call.
The official called it a catch…holy sh!t, what part of that don’t you get?

Down 8 coaches always push more because of that scenario. I agree with you but that explains the call

Oh good lord….if he was retarded, his record would be 2-10 every year regardless of how much talent he has. Why did you not get into coaching with all your knowledge?
Head coaches mainly rely on their coordinators during the game. Head coaches make in game decisions on things like whether to kick an extra point or go for 2.

What’s crazy is how that one pass play and XP has somehow given Tom Allen a pass on what a disgusting display that D had. THAT is what cost us this game. If you told me we put up 37 tonight I would have said we won. We can heap blame on Franklin, AK, and Drew but don’t forget to ask Tom Allen if he knew that Tez was playing and that a slant was going to be run. They couldn’t figure out how to stop that and THATS what did PSU in tonight.

I don't think anyone is blaming him as the sole reason. He didn't have his best game and his footwork was terrible again but there is lots of blame to go around.

We could have won the game with boneheaded play calling or choking coaches or multiple turnovers or stupid penalties or tons of blatant no-calls on the other team but unfortunately we had all of those things.

Geeez what part of this do you not understand?

After that the refs moved the ball back 8 yards. And you don't think Franklin should question that???

Let me repeat to you, the ball was not spotted at the catch How hard is that for you to understand?

We will disagree. Absolutely not in that situation. You can do that when plenty of time left. Oregon was getting absolutely brutalized by our RBs. They were gassed up front. OL played hell of a game. This is where JoePa had it right. Keep doing it until they stop you.

Allen - 14 for 124
Singleton - 10 for 105

Mic down.
Just like he did in 78 Sugar Bowl. JF didn’t tell Allar to throw it up for grabs into double coverage.

Unless it was a complete pass, then it’s a great call. Hindsight coaching is easy.
It was never worth the risk. Oregon could not stop our run game. I don't get it. I bet we score at least if keep getting ball to our RBs. They had no answer...none at all.

No. If they complete it then we are playing with the prospect of leaving time for Oregon to get into FG range. We were moving the ball in chunks against them. There was no need to risk a turnover, since it was the only thing that would truly hurt us.

Losses are always a team thing. Defense couldn’t get off the field and two bad picks were the key plays.

And they go the first down, so it had no effect on the outcome…let it go.

Did it matter? They picked up the first down, but keeping beating a dead horse that had no effect on the game…like the two point conversion attempt.
It matters because those mistakes will hurt at some point, even if that particular mistake didn't have an effect on the game.

This is fair and true but the staff wanted to take a shot. It didn't work.
I still maintain down 7 we don't do that

Second and short, you take a chance knowing you can pick it up on third down. No one calls a play expecting an INT.

Yes so don’t throw the ball into double coverage to a WR that was not open. Just like he did most of the night.

There is no correlation that points to doing something in one game hurting us in another game….none whatsoever. Every game is different.

I'll see you guys in a few weeks. I'm just grumpy because I really thought we had a chance tonight to win Big 10 and get #1 overall seed.

Still a bonehead move by Franklin.

The refs move the ball back 8 yards and he doesn't even question it but instead calls a quick play. So dumb.
And then a first down, so what difference did it make other than giving the Franklin haters some ammunition to continue their bashing.
