Football GAMEDAY THREAD: Penn State versus Oregon in 2024 B1G Championship

Gene disagreed with you.

HandjoCommando doesn't know what the F he's talking about yet again. A Fair Catch signal is when you're hand an arm are put straight up above your head and wained side-to-side. At a minimum, the side-to-side signal must be made above the shoulder. In this case, PSU returner's arm never goes above his shoulder AND it most certainly was never waived side-to-side. Ridiculous call especially given that it wasn't made during the play and created out of thin air at the Oregon Coach's request.

If you're a Penn State fan you can take this loss one of two ways.

Way 1) Penn State can't still win the big games, there's no hope in the playoffs

Way 2) Penn State went toe-to-toe with perhaps the national championship favorite and if the offense shows up like they did tonight, they can beat anyone.

Interested to see how the reaction is split.
I'd be in camp 2 if not for JF's horrible record against top 10 teams.

My biggest positive takeaway is that KA and Singleton looked good.

The biggest negative is Franklin still doesn't have a clue. He made several bonehead mistakes tonight.

Lets call a hurry up play after they don't call it a catch and move the ball back 8 yards. So DUMB

It's crazy that people are afraid to criticize Drew for throwing that up for grabs. He wasn't told to throw the ball. He has a choice. Franklin has pounded into his head for the last 3 years to protect the ball. If he's not open don't throw it. Just because they run the play doesn't mean he has to throw the ball.
He was told to throw that. 100% he was told they wanted to take a shot deep on 2nd and short and to give your guy a chance. That's the design. He wasn't seeing if he was open. He had the 1v1 coverage as the safeties took away the middle.

What is happening

Oregon is the better team, but not by a large margin. That game was winnable, but the coaches didn’t put them in the best position to win. Kids played very gutsy. Give them a ton of credit.
What should the coaches have done to put them in a position to win. The go for two is the only thing I got.

The ball should have been closer to the sideline. Right shoulder instead of left. Incomplete pass would have been fine. A back shoulder or a yard or too shorter would have likely drawn DPI.
The ball wasn't perfect. Most 50/50 balls aren't. Wallace hesitated on the route as it looked like he misjudged it

Hate the play call but it was the design

Penn State's two-point conversion success rate is 0.343. Most college teams are successful on two-point conversions about 45–50% of the time.

It was a horrible decision.
Only because they didn’t make it….so they lost by 8 instead of 7….oh the horror!

I just want to say this. I don't see how you can blame Allar on this loss. His last TD was fabulous.

The D was pretty horrid for most of the game. The refs did us no favors. And some mistakes by Franklin.

Lol. They probably relay the plays calls in and at the end they say " you gotta throw this one!"

They did call it a catch, then changed it after the the play was already going which caused a bunch of confusion.

Yes the defense couldn’t get any stops. But it doesn’t have to be an either or. Defense can be bad and QB throw two bad throws.

Seriously what is happening
His first read is Wallace. Wallace had 1v1 coverage with the safety staying in the middle. Drew read that correctly which results in a 50/50 ball. Your WR is responsible for ensure that its incomplete as the worst case. Nothing was wrong here other than we can hate the call.

No team in the country could beat Oregon indoors. Just isn’t happening.

They moved the freakin spot back 8 yards.

Are you telling me Franklin could not see or comprehend this???
They were in a hurry up offense, so he thought they were going after a catch. You do realize things look different and happen quickly real time from the sidelines, right?

Nope not even close. I call pass there as well on second and a foot. If nothing is there, throw it away and then pick up the first down. But I don’t think my QB throws to a covered receiver who has safety help. Especially when shorter throws were available.
We will disagree. Absolutely not in that situation. You can do that when plenty of time left. Oregon was getting absolutely brutalized by our RBs. They were gassed up front. OL played hell of a game. This is where JoePa had it right. Keep doing it until they stop you.

Allen - 14 for 124
Singleton - 10 for 105

Mic down.

Unless it was a complete pass, then it’s a great call. Hindsight coaching is easy.
