2024 National Duals

On a positive note, PA wrestlers Keegan Bassett (41kg), Chase Karenbauer (44kg), Matteo Gallegos (48kg) and Mario Hutcherson (75kg) were all crowned champions at the 15U Pan Am championships today
I seen some highlights of Hutcherson at Pan Ams on Twitter or X, whatever it is called now. Let's just say they should have charged him with assault. He launched kids all over the place.

PA Blue rolled past New Jersey 59-21 and Ohio Scarlet 45-35 to make the finals, then beat California 50-27 to repeat as champs in 14U Freestyle.

PA Red beat Texas 63-20, then edged Michigan 41-37 to make the finals of the Bronze/Copper Pool. They’re wrestling Oklahoma Blue right now for 9th/10th.

They really do train not shoot in Iowa, these 16u kids from Iowa aren't shooting at all. The only way they are scoring is on re-attacks so fricking boring to watch....

Pa kids are attacking like crazy!

Awesome to see schwab coaching Iowa 16u team! I'm guessing thats his son is on the team, all the same still nice to see him there.

I’m sorry but that’s just stupid. A kid in junior high leaving their shoes on the mat to signify they are “retiring “ from greco?!?! Come on
Who gives a s”it if he no longer wants to do greco. Why not focus all on folkstyle / freestyle, thats what he will benefit the most from.

Leaving your shoes on the mat in middle school to signify being done with a style is corny as hell.
It was hard to watch...
Who gives a s”it if he no longer wants to do greco.
I don't think anyone cares if he no longer wants to do Greco. I also don't think anyone cares to see him make a spectable about no longer wanting to do Greco.

I couldn’t care less if he does greco or not. What’s stupid is him making a big show out of “retiring” when he’s in junior high. If he just stopped wrestling greco and didn’t say a word I doubt anyone even would’ve noticed.

PA Red blew by Oklahoma Blue 60-18 to finish 9th. Both PA teams this weekend were very competitive. I think they were pretty balanced overall.

In 16U, PA beat Wisconsin 46-26, then topped Iowa 36-33 to make the finals. They then lost 43-28 to California in the finals to take 2nd.

In Pan Am action:
Isla Silva took gold in girls action. Hutcherson, Restivo, Bassett and Karenbauer all were crowned double champs. Gallegos took bronze

The Men’s and Women’s Junior National Duals kick off tomorrow and Thursday.

Several notable names will be competing. Wisconsin will boast inarguably the best 1-2 punch at 215 and HWT with Conner and Cole Mirasola occupying the 215lb weight class and Koy Hopke at HWT.

Saw a WIwrestle tweet that had Conner listed at 190(with Sinclair). I'm hoping Wisconsin and Iowa hit so we can get Dreshaun Ross v Cole Mirasola. Would be a good one.

The list I saw had both Mirasola’s and Ross at the same weight. Really really want to see a Cole vs Ross battle but would be happy to see any of Ross vs Sinclair, Cole, or Connor

I'm less familiar with the girls, but that is a very wide talent distribution, especially for such a recent run-up to make girls' wrestling official in PA. It's encouraging. Best of luck to them.

I’m familiar with a handful of the girl wrestlers (Jaffe, Astorino, Chiesa, Lauta, Silva, Watson, Bacon, Unrue, Bouzakis, Ryhal, Hunt), but probably 80-90% of them are new to me. Nevertheless, it’s great to see such full teams for the women’s duals

The article on themat.com lists both Mirasola’s at 215. Could be a miscommunication, I’m not sure. Dreshaun is a monster though so it’d be a great match for either one

I believe there was an interview a few weeks back where Connor stated the last 3 weights - not including 285 - were going to be him, Cole and Sinclair. Probably doesn't matter (much) where they weigh in at - in fact, it's probably better if they have two guys weigh in at the same weight (as long as it is not 215) to have some flexibility with the matchups. They want to win it.

That pin was almost exactly how Cassar stuck Bulk Job in the national finals.
in the sense that neither were close to pinned? lol

my goodness that was a drubbing though. did mocco not know what style he was wrestling? going leg pass to open the clip was certainly a choice.

White was on his back for more than a sscond when he first hit the mat, before the ref got into position and before Cassar applied tbe crossface.

For those wondering, Wisconsin and Iowa did get drawn into the same pool for the Gold/Silver bracket so there’s a real possibility that we could see a Ross vs Mirasola matchup at 215. They face off in the final dual of Pool A for the Gold/Silver bracket tomorrow morning.

It’s worth mentioning that Iowa did bring another 215. 3x Iowa state medalist Henry Christensen.

It will be fun to watch Mirasola beat up Ross tomorrow from Iowa. The Iowa people have been talking about this guy for years now.
