The doctors said the heart was a "perfect fit" - it must have been HUGE. Godspeed, Matt.

Such wonderful news at such a wonderful time of the year in general and yet, a family has lost their loved one.

I had a dear friend pass on at age 44 of a heart attack, complications of other chronic conditions. Several years later we proposed an award in his name be instituted in our local professional chapter and at the first award night his wife joined us. She spoke of his love of the industry and for us but most surprisingly that he now was in 17 other people through transplanting. She listed a few of the points, the lenses of his eyes and some others. It was all very touching. Transplanting and donation of the material is an important duty we all share that can help those in desperate need, like Matt.

Thank God Matt received the heart in time. A high school class mate passed waiting on a heart for 25 years. Such great news on the eve of celebrating the Lord's birth.

This is wonderful news. Thoughts and prayers for both families. May all the Blessing possible be shared.
I feel like this is a Christmas present for me too. I only know Matt thru Whitehall friends, one year ahead, but I was a friend of a friend and that was good.

Matt Millen gets Christmas Eve heart transplant

The former NFL linebacker and Lions General Manager suffers from amyloidosis and has been in a Newark, New Jersey hospital waiting for a heart transplant for some time. King’s column opens with a text exchange he had with Millen on Sunday afternoon that includes Millen informing King that a heart had been found.

Millen was set to go into surgery at 1 a.m. on Monday morning and would take between four and six hours, so he’s likely in the operating room at this moment.

“Tell ‘em to pray,” Millen said when asked about a message for King’s readers. “I’ll need it.”

We’ll do that and send our best wishes for Millen and his family.

Praise God and praying for a speedy recovery. Father God, please send your Spirit to comfort the donor’s family. Bless them greatly.

I lost a nephew in August who was a waiting for a liver transplant. If you have not signed up yet to be a donor, please, please do so.
God bless the donor and the family who gave the heart to Matt.

Miracles can happen at Christmas. Special feeling for Matt Millen because he was my first interview when I started "Catch Lions Fever", which became Blue White Illustrated.

Joe Tessitore just got pretty choked up talking about Matt on MNF just a few minutes ago. Witten then started talking about Matt in the past tense.

Matt’s a real softie.....thought he’d be going home this afternoon. Nurses, beware!

As people have pointed out, organ donors are always needed in every part of our country.

In Illinois, you can register to be an organ donor online through the Secy of State (Driver’s License) office. I suspect many other states have similar registries.

It’s important, too, that your primary care physician and your family know of your intent, if, indeed, that is your desire.

To the hero and his (or her) family that helped Matt, thank you.

On this day of gift giving, through the sacrifice of one person, we are reminded that no greater gift can be given than then the gift of life.

Phil, I was reminiscing of my earlier days as a student and fan and Catch Lions Fever as the go to magazine published for us fanatics back in the day, thank you for you efforts all this time. You do have some long term supporters out here.

Prayers for Matt's surgery and healing and your brother-in-law's continued healing. What a wonderful Christmas gift for each of them and certainly their family and friends as well. May each of them enjoy a full and rewarding life for the rest of their time with us.
Amen to that. This season, we celebrate another man who gave us life through his death. Miracles are not irony. We all should be as thankful as Matt for our new lives. God bless.

Yeah, I wanted to add a shout out to the hero who decided to be an organ donor. To be honest, it's something that everyone should do.
There are many who are not appropriate to be an organ donor due to a variety of medical conditions. Hopefully those who can will sign up to be a donor and extend someone's life or quality of life.
Hope everybody had a Merry Christmas.

My father-in law passed away almost a year ago- a week after New Years. Until that point he was the longest current living heart transplant at the Cleveland Clinic, living 21 years after the transplant. He got to see several grandchildren and great grandchildren born, his kids and several grandkids get married, and I never would have met him and my children would never have known their grandfather.

If you are an organ donor thank-you, and if you aren’t, please consider it. I never was until met him but am now a huge advocate.
