i was watching the game at my parents house with all of my brothers. It was quiet as we fell behind and one of my bothers said " a big play and we get in Dans head we win this game this team will win a gut check" The rest was history

An amazing game. Sat in the end zone, windy raw day, cold and overcast. Looked like all Pitt into the 2nd quarter, and then we tied it up at 14. In the second half, the two great TD passes to Jackson, amazing comeback and blow out ultimately.

I swear I am not making this up. At halftime, tried to go to men's room, but they had sold so many standing room tickets, people in aisle at top of stadium were packed in so tight, they couldn't move to let us through. Went to gate, explained situation to ushers, asked them to let us out to pee. They said "You go out, you're not coming back in!". Police saw we weren't lying, told ushers "Let them out, and back in!". Urinated on wall of Pitt Stadium in broad daylight! Wish I could have gotten that piece of wall of Pitt Stadium when they tore it down.

Full capacity in that era was around 57,000, and the announced attendance was over 60,000. There was really no place for the SRO people to go, as Pitt Stadium really was just a big bowl.

It's a shame they didn't maintain it, and then finally tore it down. It was a great old place. It was in massive disrepair, for sure, but it should have been treated like a holy relic.

They needed a bigger stadium to hold all the NC trophies.

My wife and I were at the game. We had traveled from Philadelphia for the weekend.
I have never left a game before the final whistle. But we looked so bad early.
When Pitt started the drive up 14 I was disgusted with the ease with which Pitt was moving the ball.
I looked at Emily and said"they score we are out of here"
And then the interception needless to say my string of never leaving until the final whistle remained intact.

Fortunately for you, nittany dave, I was at Pitt Stadium a few days before they started taking it down and I saw 2 engineers staring at part of the wall in amazement. I listened as one guy, shaking his head, said to the other, "I heard some Penn State guy peed on it".
I took a photo for posterity.:)

I was stationed in Hawaii at the time (a dirty job but someone had to do it), so the game came on Sat morning. I watched Pitt move up and down the field for the first two scores and believed they were going to get another when Robinson intercepted. A first I did not think it was a legal interception, but slow motion reply removed all doubt. I though the interception would only prevent a score, not turn momentum. Enjoyed the 2nd half.
After the game went to the beach and enjoyed the sun and the win.

I remember in the car radio on the way up to Pitt Stadium, we had the top 40 station on, and some of the songs were "Why do fools fall in love" by Diana Ross, "turn your love around" by George Benson, "The old songs" by Barry Manilow, "Waiting for a girl like you" by Foreigner, etc. 1981 was a LONG time ago, hehe.

Think it was Roger Jackson, Kennys brother, that made that pick. Not positive, anyone else remember?

We watched it at my oldest brothers house in Wexford. He had recently received his MBA from Pitt. My next oldest brother and PSU grad put up a banner on the front porch without permission. He had used this banner at beaver stadium many times. It said PSU Numero Uno. At 14-0 oldest brother was very arrogant. As we all know the game turned on a dime and it was all PSU from then on. Later in the game oldest brother disappeared. We looked out the window and found him on the driveway dancing around the burning the banner.

I recall reading that Jim Romano, PSU's Center, saying after the game that even though they were down 14-0, they felt very confident that they could move the ball on Pitt. He said that all week, the practices had preached how tough the Pitt D line was, and the Pitt NG was an All-something or other. But, Romano said, he was moving the NG out and around and however he wanted from the first snap. The other OL felt they would have control of the line in time. And sure enough, after Roger Jackson's interception, they took complete control.
But, man, Romano, you certainly could have fooled us early on!

I was watching at my parents' house. I got so excited after Robinson's pick-6 that I went to the front door and screamed into the neighborhood, "PENN STATE!" I had so much pent-up fan excitement and energy, that I really needed to be at the game. But the old neighborhood got to enjoy my outburst instead.

Me and my family had moved to Australia for a temporary assignment that spring. Things got wrapped up by early November so we took a vacation on the way home. First to FIJI. I was able to get updates of the ND game from the pilot. After Fiji it was on to Maui and then on to Disneyland for Thanksgiving. The day of the Pitt game it was actually quite cold and raining so we didn't go to the park. I started watching the game in the room and then went down to the bar and watched it with a bunch of loud and rowdy Nebraska fans who were pulling for Penn State (they actually thought they still had a shot at the MNC if PSU won). Anyway, it was a hell of a homecoming present for this old boy

You are correct ... Roger Jackson intercepted the pass that started the comeback. Mark Robinson later added a 90+ pick-6 during which he lost his shoe ... and all those super fast Pitt guys still couldn't catch him.

One of my best friends went to school at Robert Morris, so became a Pitt fan. We used to test our friendship by getting together to watch the PSU-Pitt game most years.
This game taught me how to be compassionate.

We were watching on a small B&W TV* at a friends house--somebody had an old cassette tape deck, so we hung the mic over the tv speaker to "tape" the game.... I think we did listen to the replay before we went home that night.

*Realize that back in the day, it was tough to get games on TV and there were no sports bars per se.

Some of my workmates were working a shutdown at the mill in Steelton. The radio was blaring and the 2 sPitters were razzing bigtime through the whole 1st q. Before the game was over they left work early as the table had turned.

They must have been the only 2 pitt fans in Steelton back then. That was before half of Allegheny county moved to the Harrisburg/ Lancaster/ York region. :D

Sat in the end zone with the Pennsylvania State crowd. My wife is a Pitt grad so we rented the hall at the Ukrainian club in Carnegie for an after party. We invited both Pitt and Penn State friends to the party. My college roommate and his 4 brothers arrived to the party carrying a "corpse" dressed in Pitt clothing. During the party I toasted the day as the "happiest day in my life". I was married the previous May. The toast didn't go over well with my wife, especially in front of her Pitt friends. Believe it or not we are still married 36 years later. She will be with me at this years game, rooting for Penn State because she recognizes how important Penn State football is to me.

Rodger Jackson Kenny brother had the first pick Robinson returned a pick 6 at the end

LOL, they are. I'm godfather to their kids, too. The Pitt game is one of a long line of big games I missed because of weddings: '81 Nebraska (caught the final drive), '85 Maryland, '94 Ohio State.

You have too many friends.

;)
