Thoughts/observations after getting back from the Kent State game:

1) For the second week in a row, a hustle play helped change the outcome of the game. McSorley makes a good tackle to prevent a touchdown on the interception play. If Kent State scores, it is now 21-14 and Kent State receives the second half kickoff. Also, a nice defensive stand by the defense holding Kent State to a field goal.

2) Great decision by Franklin to have Kent State kickoff again after the penalty. Man, Hamler is the real deal on kick returns. We score to make it 28-10 (in 35 seconds) to change the entire momentum of the game.

3) Nice recovery game by DeAndre Tompkins at wide receiver. Excellent catch on the touchdown. Continues to be one of the best punt returners in the nation.

4) Still disappointed in Juwan Johnson. He had press coverage on him all day by a cornerback that was 8 inches shorter than him and could not get very little separation on pass routes. On the one long pass to him, it looked like that he gave up on the ball. We need him to play better as the Big Ten season starts.

5) I was almost hoping during the game that a drive would stall so that Pinegar could kick a field goal so that we could see how he performs in a pressure situation. Checa kickoffs continue to be impressive.

6) Hopefully, we will not see another onside kick converted by the opposition!

7) Freiermuth continues to improve and impress at tight end. Good to see him catch a deeper ball.

8) Parsons, Brooks, Miller and Luketa showing a little improvement as they continue to push for playing time. Parsons reads are still not the best, but his quickness and speed allow him to recover quickly on plays. Thought Cam Brown played a better game.

9) Let's not have a letdown with the Friday night game with Illinois. 1-0 for the week.
