A little Penn State football news (a little diversion from Pitt threads)

Thanks for the diversion. ;) Always fun to hear this type of thing concerning newcomers who we've not yet seen play.

Eye on the underclassmen

Penn State’s bowl practices are a time for younger players to step up, and one cornerback caught the eye of sophomore corner Grant Haley and redshirt sophomore wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton.

Garrett Taylor, he’s done really good. A lot of people will be excited to see him next year,” Haley said of the freshman who took a redshirt this season. “He’s really matured as a player. I was given a chance to kind of be his mentor and we’re really close.”

Added Hamilton: “I’ve lined up across from [Taylor] all year on scout team and he’s opened my eyes a little bit. He’s been pretty good all season. He’s just one of the guys. [Freshman safety] Ayron Monroe is another one who did great on the scout team all season.”

Great to see positive reviews on Taylor and Monroe. Need both those kids to eventually compete for all-B1G honors.

Also, interesting comment by Franklin about Ricky Rahne. Might be an indicator that he'll remain in his role as QBs coach.
  • Quarterbacks coach Ricky Rahne, who Franklin called a “rising star in the profession,” will call the plays for the bowl game.

why do you think he wouldn't?

Exciting to hear about Taylor and Monroe. They will be two key pieces next year. I can't wait to see some of these kids that redshirted this year play next year.

Taylor, Monroe, Givens, Miller, Windsor, Buckholtz, and Jarvis Miller on D

Ryan Bates, Steven Gonzales, Nick Bowers, John Holland, Juwan Johnson, and Irving Charles

The 2015 class appears to be loaded

Haven't been able to keep up as much over the holidays but, last I saw, CJF was still deciding who's going to coach TEs. Not sure if Moorhead was ever a candidate to coach QBs, but I assumed that was a possibility with Rahne being retained and perhaps reassigned to TEs. Has there been any clarification offered on these coaching roles in 2016? Thanks.
