A Look At UM and Hawks Weekend

Believe it or not, Iowa has had no BigTen champs 3 of the last 6 years.

The one that gets me is during his time at Penn State Cael has more NCAA champions than Brands has Big10 champs.

While I agree that Lewis is a punk, the Hawkeye faithful hammer him and excuse the behavior of Gilman for 4 years, and not a peep about how Turk decided to finish his match with Lee this past weekend.

Also, 2 wrestlers that I know of made quite exuberant gestures towards opposing coaches this weekend. Lewis and Massa to the Iowa coaches. Odd coincidence, right? The behavior comes from the top. It's good to see kids like Sorensen and Kemerer continue to act with class, win or lose, in spite of the leadership.

Lewis doesn't surprise me but Massa "flexing" makes me wonder if the wrestlers were reacting to something the Brands said during the match. Something that stirred up their emotions like the UofM fans did to Mark Hall. Hard to picture a kid doing that to Cael but I suppose it could happen.

He flexed but also moved his hand in a talking mime....I got the impression the corner was definitely yapping about something during the match.

He did the one handed "run your mouth, blah, blah, blah" signal. You know, make a "C" with the fingers and thumb and move the fingertips and thumbtips together and open repeatedly.

I saw nothing in regards to Turks's actions. Maybe I should look harder.

Not sure I’ve ever seen two wrestlers (Massa flexing, and Lewis mimicking brands running his mouth), from two different teams, get after a coach after a win like they did Brands this weekend. I realize Iowa in general is not well liked by many... but there was some serious attitude being shelled out. Is there a backstory to those instances?

It is the end of his first season. Just my take, but if the kid is indeed the best recruit since Cael Sanderson and he has been in someone's wrestling room for a year now he should be able to take Tomascello down.

He was just cleared to wrestle in the fall and was in HS this time last year. Maybe you missed the whole knee surgery thing.

Overall, Iowa sucks hind tit. The bull is good but he won't be the 4X undefeated NCAA champ those schmucks touted after upset of Cenzo. He may be lucky to take 4th this year. Lee awesome and can win it all. Kemmerer very, very good and should take 2nd to Nolf. Sorenson very very good and should take 2nd to Zain but could get beat en route. Seems content with 2 point loss to Zain - who wouldn't? Aside from that, nothing. Stoll is a slug and may be lucky to AA.

Next year, they should be better but not good enough...again.

Absolutely no one thought he would be a 4x undefeated champ. Lol
