Aaron Mathews offer

This staff is from the SEC. They are not saving scholarships for next year. They will use them all and if they have to make room next year then so be it.

I don't see them saving scholarships either, as they work so hard on recruiting I can't see them not being able to find talented kids that are interested in playing in front of big crowds in a great game day atmosphere. My point was that the staff works hard at recruiting, does their homework on the recruits, and would not offer kids that they didn't feel had a great chance to come in and contribute.....

I have no doubt Mathews will commit on the 22nd. It is well known he has wanted this offer for sometime. If it helps land Hudson and Hamlin, great! Otherwise, I see it as a wasted schollie.

Have you seen him play?

Yes, he's a good athlete but lacks elite speed. He isn't going to compete with any of our safeties. He could turn into an outside linebacker if he adds weight. My question is why use a schollie when you already have Brown and Toney. I just think we could use it at a different position.

Like the input regarding JoeMo, hadn't thought of him possibly having input into this offer. Also liked the input from the Pitt guy who said that Mathews girlfriend goes to PSU and was conceding him to us. Nobody even commented on that post but it is huge if true.

When you take over as coach, use the scholarships as you see fit.....

CJF and his staff believes the kid can come in and improve the team, and when CJF dominates the PA top 15 recruits that works for me...............

No school saves scholarships wether it's an SEC or any other conference school. Pocketing scholarships for next year is due to running out of accceptable recruits.

Look, don't get mad because I'm offering my honest assessment of the kid and his offer. The only reason we are offering him is too entice other WPIAL kids to commit as well. Which is fine. If it doesn't work...we aren't getting anything we need.

Could just be a 6ft. 5in. football player. A possession receiver that will run a seam route and punish the first two DB's that try and tackle him. That is a menace without blazing speed. Might also be a devastating blocker.

I'm not mad at all. I'm happy that the staff has identified additional players that can help the team as options for the remainder of the 2016 class.

But I am amused when posters here imply they know more about individual high school players than our coaches, who have been evaluating high school players for a living for some time and have done so very successfully.....

I'm also amused that posters are convinced that our coaches would offer high school players, use one or more of their limited scholarships, on a player just to make a statement to other local players. In fact I'm more than amused as I believe that theory is bizarre. Our coaches value each scholarship and would not offer a player unless they believe he can come to PSU and contribute to a winning football team....

Dude this isn't Penn State Pravda...it's a discussion board. The kid runs a 4.89 forty which is pedestrian for a DB. As I said, he has potential as a linebacker and we already have two better recruits at the position. It doesn't take a genius to know why we offered. I hope it works...I'm just skeptical.

If it helps us get Wade, or some other future Clairton stud, I don't care if he runs a 7.49.

He is quoted as saying his offer is as a db or linebacker.

Who says he runs a 4.89? What if Cam brown becomes a DE?

I have no problems with Mathews as a player. He is a project and at 6' 5" you can take that chance. My point is we are close to our limit and have more pressing needs. I just think we can get a better recruit. If it works out and we get Hudson and Hamlin than I'm wrong.

Don't see a 40 time on either page. And his hudl tape was awesome
He's a good player. He's just not a need, when we have limited ships. As a LB he is a project and I'll agree he has a lot of upside. The truth is if he weren't a guaranteed commit from the WPIAL we wouldn't be offering. I get the motive....I just think we can land these other kids without wasting a ship.

You don't know what position he's going to play and have no idea how many ships we have. Other than that you nailed it

He does not run a 4.89.

All I can tell you is if you click on player profile on hudl...it had his time listed at 4.89. It now lists no time. I never timed him personally but judging by how lightly recruited he has been...I'm going to say it is probably fairly accurate. However, if you want me to blow smoke up your ass and say he is a undiscoved gem and as good or better than Miles Sanders...Okay..He is excellent.

No, actually you f**kin douche I was speaking with some working knowledge on the subject. I should have known that would be a novel concept for you.

I'm not ur dude, and I doubt that you timed him in the 40. But I'd bet that CJF knows how fast he is. You talk like you know something but I doubt if you know anything about his potential as a LB or any other position(s). But again, CJF does. It doesn't take a genius to act like you know why CJF offered the kid and not really know, which is what you are doing.....

Really? I doubt that very much. Please feel free to message me. I'll give you the opportunity to call me that in person.

I believe my post says I haven't timed him. However, I do know his coach and I'll confirm it if you like.

Shame on you, if you raised your kids to call people whose opinion they do not like a douche bag!
