Looks like he has visits planned with OK State, Rutgers and Nebraska. Interesting choices and intrigued to see if he adds anymore

Hmmm, is it too much to read into the size of the John Smith picture in the post?;)

Disclaimer: I have absolutely NO inside information. :D

Serious question: which weight do people project AJ Ferrari to wrestle? Is he expected to be a career 197lber? Is he a career heavyweight? Perhaps start at 197 and end at 285?

Another question: ideally, how would he fit into PSU’s line up? Does he sit behind either Beard or Nevills a year or two? Does he force one or the other to sit?

My guess is there's no interest in either direction, but using an official visit to meet Cael and staff is a smart vanity move; it advertises that you're good enough to wrestle for the best program in the country, even if you ultimately go elsewhere, and that visibility might help your negotiating leverage against the school you wind up at. It's also just smart to max your official visits so you have a basis for comparison. Schools aren't the same, go see how and why, it'll help you decide what's important to you, to the extent your 18-year old brain can realistically do that.

there has to be some interest on PSU's side, or the AD wouldn't waste time and effort, but most importantly money, on the official visit. The AD is hemorrhaging cash.

Okay, maybe not "no" interest, but for blue chip recruits it's probably worth a look. As for money I don't imagine the AD analyzes each individual recruit from a cost benefit standpoint; there's probably a set budget and the team is either under or over it.

Interesting perspective, I really don't see where he fits in the lineup without bumping another scholarship recruit so you may very well be on to something.

It's all leverage on both sides. Gets Ferrari more from a school that wants him.

Psu drives up the market on recruit they really don't need, so maybe down the road it helps with a different recruiting battle.

If the situation doesn't work for the kid or psu they both know a little more about each other and down the road a call can be placed and maybe a change of venue occurs after a transfer.

Seems rather ho hum businessy to me.

does anybody know if there's a limit on official visits per year that a school can offer per year for wrestling? i'm pretty sure there's a limit for football around 50-60. scaling that to wrestling by scholarships (85 vs 9.9) would put it about 5-7 but scaling it by the roster limits (105 vs 32) makes it about 15-18.

No limit can bring in as many as you want

Just remember...….Daton Fix took all of his Official Visits but then admitted that he never had any intention of going anywhere but Okie State. A.J. is not 100% as strongly committed but I think everyone will be stunned if he ends up any place but Oklahoma State........…..wrestling 165 :)

I'm a bit confused by the wording. Seems possible, there's a couple questions there.

Official visits are limited to 5 per perspective recruit, and he can only visit the same school once. Unofficial visits are unlimited.

The football vs wrestling example is not a good one, imo. Football is a headcount sport, so scholarships are all-or-nothing. Wrestling is an equivalency sport, so less-than-full scholarships are allowed, with all of a year's athletic scholarships, added together, not exceeding 9.9.

There are school-imposed limits, but no NCAA limits on roster size. PSU's is 37, and I've heard ballpark numbers from other schools over the years.

Roar, he's asking if there is an NCAA imposed cap on the number of prospects PSU can host on official visits per year.

I don't think the NCAA cares if Cael hosts 3 or 10 or 150 prospects this year -- but that's the question.

Not true.

If Cenzo can make 165 at PSU, Ferrari can make 149 in Stilly.

Ferrari is a stud but so is Braxton Amos. What’s up with him? Love Gage Garcia, too. Is Matt Lee to follow his brothers?

Remember, AJ is not the only world class wrestler in the family. The team that lands AJ will be the leading contender for his younger brother Anthony. Anthony has not yet reached AJ’s level but he is on that trajectory. I live in Allen and I am still confused why the family moved back. Allen High wrestles in OK as much as possible but that competition cannot be as good as NJ/OH/PA. But we are damn glad to have them back! AJ is a Hammer’s hammer but I agree the fit at PSU would be difficult. I hope it works out but my money is on AJ landing in Stillwater.
