It should be a good ole fashion smash mouth football game. Hoping for the Dawgs to pull it off but think Bama will prevail.

But did you know that since 1975 they have played each other only 14 times which is exactly the same number of times that PSU has played Bama. They are border states in the same conference. You would think they would play a lot more than that.

Wondered about that for years and years.....why the other schools in the conference didn’t demand that they play each other.

No question that gave both schools much better pathways to the top of the polls year after year after year.

Who cares??? Alabama couldn't even win their Division.

UCF beat Auburn who beat both Georgia and Alabama. The game most of the Country WANTS to see is Georgia vs Ohio State. An actual Conference Champion.

This joke of a matchup next week is nothing more than a glorified exhibition. Both UCF and Ohio State deserve to be there exponentially more than the Alabama Dr Peppers.

Should be an incredible game between 2 very deserving opponents. Alabama's defense against Georgia's running attack!! Can't wait!

Really showing my age and iffy memory here ... I seem to remember a controversial issue between Alabama and Georgia that really angered Bear Bryant. He refused to schedule the Dawgs after that.

The Bear was too busy padding the schedule with cupcakes like Nebraska, Missouri and USC.

I believe the grudge was with GTech and Coach Bobby Dodd. Tech actually was a charter member of the SEC. I remember Bill Curry talked about that years ago when he took the Bama job and how the animosity still was there between the two schools. Curry graduated from Tech. Not sure what was the root of it all.

Supposed brutality in a game.

Thanks, Ian, for the correction. But at least I was only wrong on a TECHnicality.

No, actually most of the country doesn’t WANat to watch Ohio St get blown out yet again.

I love Southern Football legend and lore. Having lived in Georgia and Florida for years, it really is religion. The only other comp is ACC basketball in the Carolinas.

Not sure about hostility but the SEC has an odd cross division scheduling format which coupled with UGAs protected rivalry with Auburn and Bama s protected rivalry with UT only allow these teams to play every several years.

Stupid game for a fake championship. I will not be tuning in. Hopefully the ratings are so poor that they realize their fake playoff needs to change and every major conference champ should have an automatic invite and deserving non-power 5's like undefeated UCF deserve an invite.

The problem is that conceptually the process works against itself. Conference champions polls committees and bowl games work against each other to create a viable and defensible process.

It is not so defensible when:

1) You have an undefeated team that just beat the team that crushed (one by 2 scores, the other by 4 scores) both of the teams playing for the fake championship.

2) You exclude the top teams from a conference that absolutely dominated (going 7 and Michigan) overall and winning all 3 NY6 bowl games that they played. It appears as if the playoff simply dodged the best conference in favor of stacking the deck for a conference that underperformed in the bowl games finishing with a losing record. By the way, UCF's conference finished the bowl season better than the SEC and with a wining record.

Therefore we are left with the possibility that 4 teams (Ohio St, Wisconsin, PSU, and UCF) are very likely to have beaten either Alabama or Georgia. And we will never really know which team truly was the best this season.

I think Alabama has a very physical defense stacked with LB's that would start as tackles on most D1A teams. A defense that was able to shut down a Clemson offense which was pretty darn good. I actually feel bad for the Georgia QB, who I believe will be running for his life the entire game. I just hate the idea of Alabama winning another National Championship. On the other hand if there's a small miracle and Georgia wins Alabama will have back to back losses in NC games opening up the door for other coaches to go after some of their recruiting prospects.

I think Georgia can win this game. If their second-half Rose Bowl defense shows up against Bama, they can win. I think Georgia has a more dynamic offense than does Bama.

So, can Georgia's offense score against Bama's defense? Does Georgia play good defense against Bama? KEYS. TO. THE. GAME.

I think Georgia should be the favorite in all honesty. Should be a great game. I understand why people are complaining about two SEC teams but Oklahoma or Clemson should have won and we wouldn't be in this situation. Also, boycotting this game doesn't do a damn thing if you watched or went to a bowl game.

Except, as the Big 10 knows, basing conference strength on bowl success is questionable. When a conference gets 2 (or even 1) team selected for the playoff, the rest of the teams in the conference have to play "up" in their bowl games. I don't necessarily disagree with you but I have a problem basing it on bowl outcome, BTW, I LOVE referring to the Big 10 bowl outcome as 7 wins and 1 Michigan.

UCF beating Auburn in a bowl game after Auburn's national title hopes were crushed means very little about the chances they would have against Bama or Georgia. In a 4 team set up the SEC will get 2 teams most years from here on out--especially since they keep succeeding in the playoffs. The SEC is 5-2 (soon to be 6-3) with 2 titles. No one else is better than 500 (ACC/Big Ten). The SEC wins when it matters...at least Bama does. This is the third straight year they've won at least one playoff game. That's why they got in. That and the SEC reputation. They've earned their status year after year

Auburn has been an every year crossover rivalary for Georgia which makes playing Alabama difficult to schedule.

I like Georgia in the game.. Bama's defense won them the game vs Clemson but their offense looked terrible. Clemson was only down 10-6 and appeared to be driving with momentum when Bama tipped a pass for an interception and followed that up with the pick 6.. two plays flipped the game quickly. Georgia was dominant in the second half vs Oklahoma and their fg kicker may be the difference vs Bama if it's a lower scoring game. Go Dawgs.. 23-14 Georgia wins it..

I think viewership for the Championship will be incredible and possibly set a record. I love watching good football.

Georgia will not be able to run on Bama like they did against Oklahoma. Bama will stack the box and make Fromme beat them. He won’t. Bama doesn’t lose two straight Champ games. When was the last time the champ had a true freshman QB? Yep, remind me again....

If Georgia can force Hurts into 2nd and third down throwing situations they have a good chance. If Hurts and Scarborough have good nights running Saban gets #6.
